Hello everyone. Nicer day here to-day, although still not warm enough for me. A little better than yesterday though with a top that reached 19 for a short while. Since sundown, the temp has been dropping down and is expected to be 6c overnight. That's better than it has been earlier in the week. Just the weather for us retirees to enjoy staying in bed. Yesterday, a builder's truck arrived to unload their gear for some construction work. Left his motor running the whole time, right outside my window - just as I almost went back to sleep. So I didn't!.... Then, to-day, they started the day by using a circular saw, again at the same time! Grrrrr. Oh, I forgot to tell you. They unloaded into the parking space opposite my lounge room window and amongst their gear is a portaloo. It gives a whole new meaning to "a room with a view". !!

Good morning, it is still cooler and overcast here, but is due to get sunny again this afternoon. I was very tired last night, but feel better this morning.
My mum always carried one of the little travel battery fans and had one next to her chair at home. At one stage a few years before she died, she was very ill in hospital with a chest infection and had to be on oxygen. When she was eventually weaned off that a nurse told her to buy a travel fan and use it to blow air towards her mouth and nose when she felt short of breath. She had emphysema as well her bad angina and found that it really did work, she often used it.
I am off to the supermarket this morning to buy lots of bottles of vinegar. I will boil them all up in one go with pickling spice, then rebottle them once they are cold. I have some shallots and beetroot ready to pickle, but I will do lots of extra vinegar so I have plenty for the rest of the season. It makes a terrible smell when it is boiling,so I like to do one large batch.
I will have to drive to the next town to get the large bottles of cheap vinegar as the supermarket here only sells the smaller bottles

Hi Sue, and everyone
it has been a little cooler today, and I think it will be so tomorrow ......... but then the hotter temperatures will be back.
We use electric fans in the house ............... I couldn't survive without them.
The one in the bedroom has been on almost constantly for the last 12 days when we have been in ............ I only turn it off when we go out.
Our visitor did the same with the fan in his bedroom ............. but I haven't bothered to put that one on since he left.
I have one in this room, our family room, and that is also on from morning to bedtime.
As a consequence, we sleep well, and are comfortable when on the computer or watching TV.
We have 2 more fans that have not yet been brought out of storage .......... one for the dining room / living room area, and a small one that we use in the kitchen if we have to be in there for any length of time with the cooker on.
OH hides in the basement :-D
Sue ............ that sounds a wonderful day!!!
When we visited OZ in 1976, I was very active on Friends Reunited, and 4 Aussie members arranged a meet-up with us ................. we had lunch at Darling Harbour. It was great fun to meet internet friends face-to-face.
Sadly, since the horrid changes on FR, I've lost contact with all but one of them .............. and I only "see" him when I go on a certain wall on FB. He took very early retirement, sold his house in the Sydney area, and bought a motor home.
He and his wife have been driving round Australia for the last 3 year or so ............ and bought a larger motor home last year.
Tec .......... hope all goes well with the fireplace installation tomorrow, and you do not have TOO much of a mess to clear up.
take care everyone
s xx

Thank you Sue - I don't mind looking silly - I'm used to it :-D
I think a fan is a very practicle piece of kit, especially in hot countries, those Spanish ladies are very sensible.
Well I must go to bed now. The men are coming in the morning to finish the fireplace. Then I can start cleaning the place of dust everywhere. I am looking forward to seeing it finished.
Enjoy your day - hope the sun shines.
Hello Berona, and Persie,
Goodnight, Tec

Sorry Tec - I had a phone call.
When we were in Spain I noticed that a large number of ladies used fans to keep their faces cool. So I bought one - they're not in short supply :-D I was teased by our travelling companions for awhile until they saw how practical they are. Same in Bali. Now I always carry a fan in the warm weather. Of course you would look a bit silly but I can send you one if you like :-D

Please don't feel bad Sue :-D
After all, we tease the Aussies when they moan about how cold it is there in the winter.
We think "Cold - they don't know what cold is" :-D

It is the humidity that effects people more than the actual heat Sue. I use a GT spray under my tongue to ease angina, but have to use it frequently in this weather.
I keep forgetting that the days are shorter for you at the moment - it was still quite light at 10pm here, but with being on the West coast we do get longer daylight than some areas of the UK.

I know the hot weather affects some people - I hate the humidity in our summer. It really drains my energy.
The raspberries sound lovely Linda - wish we could be there to sample them.
We didn't go to Taronga Park, Tec. We need a day of longer daylight to make it worthwhile. It's too cold early in the morning and it starts getting dark too early. There is so much to see and do so perhaps the next school holidays although their mum is having the time off.

Hello Sue,
We're not complaining really, and it is lovely to have some decent summer weather at last, but if the heat affects your health, as it does many people, then you can understand them wishing it was a little cooler.
Sounds like you all had a wonderful time in Sydney - was it Taronga Park you went to? I should imagine the children slept well too.

I had every upstairs window wide open last night, but there was no wind at all. This morning was lovely because it was breezy, but we are back to the high temperatures from tomorrow.
I managed to pick more Raspberries this morning and made jam this afternoon. There are lots more almost ripe, but I will just freeze them. There are zillions of Blackcurrants almost ready, I think OH is going to dig out one of the two bushes because we have far too many of the things.
The beetroot is read as well, plus the shallots, they all need dealing with as well

Please tell me you Poms are not complaining about your lovely summer weather :-0
I have been "talking" to family in England and the older ones don't like the heat but the younger ones are loving it.
Yesterday Sydney was overcast at times and cold but the children didn't care. We took them to Darling Harbour and it was buzzing with tourists, people with children on school holidays and people just enjoying themselves. It is a lovely part of Sydney and we never tire of it. We took the children to a wildlife 'park' and they enjoyed every minute of it. Then we had lunch and asked them if they would like to go to the markets - a resounding "yes" was the answer :-D They had a great time and of course they all chose something to buy with their pocket money. After that we sat down and watched the children play in one of the large playgrounds near the harbour before making our way home. Thankfully we didn't have to cook tea as their stepdad had made bolognaise sauce the night before and we only had to cook some pasta for us all. I fell into bed just after 9:30 and I don't think OH was there much later. The children really are well behaved and have such good manners. We were very proud of them although we didn't see many badly behaved children.

21 is just nice Linda - 27 and 28+ is not civilised, and the humidity makes it worse to bear. I left the bedroom window wide open last night, and the was a gently breeze coming in, so I did sleep better, apart from the birds chattering at 5am :-)
