We only had a smattering of rain, but then it stopped. It is still very humid.

All the doors and windows are open,so I am listening to some local group playing at the Picnic in the Park. They have finished now and the headline act which is a Queen tribute band will be on soon. They are due to play for an hour and a half until the fireworks start at 10.45. I like Queen, so that will be good. The only problem is that of course in this country we don't have fly screens,so as it is getting dark, we need lights on, but that brings in all the fluttery creatures

I have just come back from the market and the humidity is terrible. It feels,as,if we are going to have thunderstorm, there are supposed t o be isolated ones around

Hello Linda. Amazingly we were talking about the fireworks display the other day. It was a lovely evening.

We have a ceiling fan in the bedroom and in the kitchen - couldn't do without them. The air-conditioner doesn't cool the kitchen but if we put the fan on in the bedroom it pulls the cool air in and it's comfortable enough to sleep.

Typical, I say goodnight because no one is there and then everyone turns up. I didn't sneak off, you just didn't notice me.

It was lovely with the fan running in the bedroom, it certainly made it easy to go to sleep, I had it on the timer,so it didn't run all night.

Tonight it is the Picnic in the Park, do you remember it Sue? Technically it is the Picnic in the Hall grounds, it ends with a large firework display which actually takes place directly above our house, to keep it away from the crowds. It is a Queen tribute band this year. Some friends asked us if we wanted to go a while ago, but we said no. It has been so cold and miserable for the past few years The last time we went, we were all sitting there with our picnics just wanting to go home.

Today it is very hot,so it will be a lovely evening. The young couple next door are going, so I am regretting not getting tickets. With all the doors and windows open we will hear the music just as loud as if we were there and of course we get the fireworks for free

I am having a day off from the fruit picking, but OH is bringing lots of shallots back, so I will have those to do

Sue , the pictures are lovely :-D beautiful Grandchildren and their beautiful Grandmother .
I remember you telling the story of Aimee and the seedlings , I still think she was just wanting to look at the roots :-D

Tec , I hope my lot learn as much from me as you did from your Grandfather , I shall consider it " job well done " if they do :-) They all love to get up the allotment , to see the hens and eat the strawberries , I have bought them some child sized tools and we let them potter about digging holes etc . A few of them are at the stage that they freak out about insects , it does make me laugh when Addison says " No Nanny , no Nanny " when I show him a snail .... lol

Sorry I've missed saying Goodnight to you Tec , I got into conversation with OH .

I don't think I could ever go in for " murdering " my own food , not after I'd looked after them and said " hello dears " like I do to my chickens :-)

I hope you have a good nights sleep :-)

Sue , I think there are folk that realise the importance of getting out into the real world and others that just don't realise the importance :-(

Well I am off now as it is gone the witching hour :-0

Goodnight Tec - sweet dreams <3

Where did Linda go? Did I miss her saying goodnight?

SueMaid Report 12 Jul 2013 23:44

I had to smile at "he would murder the roosters" - I've never thought of it that way :-) When I was growing up and one of the neighbours would decide to have chicken for tea the word would go around and we would all race to the house and watch. We thought there was nothing so funny and scary as a headless chook running around the garden :-D

Well I must go to bed now,

Enjoy your restful weekend Sue :-D

Sleep well Linda, and Amanda, and Diane,

Goodnight,
Tec :-)

Amanda I also loved to go to the allotment with my grandfather to help. He also kept chickens, he called them Roosters, I would go with him around Easter time to buy young ones. Then he would rear them to kill at Christmas. They were huge.
Chicken was a luxury then, and only eaten at Christmas - well it was where I lived.
The roosters were kept at the allotment, and the hens at home for the eggs.
During the week before Christmas he would murder the roosters, and I would sit in the kitchen with my grandmother plucking them. Then they would be sold.

Photos sent, Tec :-)

We met a young man with his children the other day visiting the goat. They were going along a walking track through the bush over the back of our house. We invited them to look at the rabbit too. Their father was taking them on a "nature" walk. My OH said that it was good to see children out and about as it was a lovely day. The young man said he didn't like the children indoors all day watching telly and playing computer games. I wonder if people are starting to realise that the youngster need to get out and about.

Aiden's parents try to make sure he has lots of experiences and so does my daughter and sil. I think this is because their father was like that. My brother is like that too. I was always amazed at my nephews' knowledge of the world around us.

Thank you Sue :-)

The man that installed the fireplace took photo's and installed them into my laptop from his sb card?
I tried to send you a photo with an e-mail, but a message popped up to say I had to do something in the Default Programme?
Strange because I could send photo's from my old laptop.

I will get it sorted :-(

I have put a couple of photos up on FB - I will of course send them to you, Tec.

Tecwyn Report 12 Jul 2013 23:17

There is much in what you say Amanda - if the children grow up knowing how to produce food from the soil, they will never go hungry.
My grandfather taught me so much about growing things. I helped him from the time I was able to walk until he died when I was twelve. We did a lot together. He grew vegetables and flowers in his big garden, and veg on the allottments - he had two.
He also taught me everything I know about nature, birds, wildlife etc.
The things he taught me have stayed with me throughout life.
It is important to teach the children these things when they are young.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 12 Jul 2013 23:10

Sue I still think it's funny that Aimee pulled the seedlings up - but I guess that your OH wasn't exactly amused at the time :-D

The children gave a sensible reply to the question as far as they are concerned :-D

Amanda2003

Amanda2003 Report 12 Jul 2013 23:06

Sue , it sounds as if you had an idylic day :-D Feeding the pelicans sounds more exotic than I can imagine ....lol

Tec , it is our intention to teach the little ones about how to grow , I think food security will become a much bigger issue in the future , so many people are totally divorced from the land and nature these days :-( Plant the " seed " in their heads now and hope it bears fruit in the future .

Amanda - I think it's great that the grandchildren are interested in gardening. Drew and Joel love to help grandad although Aimee isn't interested. Do you all remember me telling you about her pulling all the seedlings out of pots awhile back? Thankfully she doesn't do that anymore!!

Yesterday a very nice couple asked the children where they lived (meaning which town) - Joel and Aimee said they lived at mummy's house. Drew said we live at mummy's house and grandma's house :-D
