I suppose you normally walk Linda, but can you get near the allotment in the car with water? |

If we run out, we will have to take water from home which will be a pain. Hopefully we will have a thunderstorm at the end of next week |

Thank you for looking that up Amada - I will certainly watch out for the signs, and the beetles. I also have tree lily's now in their second year - they are huge this year and covered in enormous buds. |

Tec , I've just looked on the RHS website ( I googled Lily beetle ) and according to them the beetle is spreading in Wales , Scotland and has reached Ireland :-( look out for black blobs on the stems of the lillies , the grub ( larva ) of the beetle leaves them behind .... ugh ! If you do happen to see the bright red buggers be careful as when you go to touch them they fall on the ground , on their backs , so you lose sight of them . They are crafty insects :-

Should have made the farmer pay to have the water restored :-0 |

There is no mains water on the allotments, there used to be until a farmer ploughed through the pipes. We actually have the meter on our plot. It was going to cost a lot to repair, so they never had it done. We have to collect water in barrels from the greenhouse roof |

We have taps on our allotments but a lot of people also have water butts , I think most of those are empty now though . |

Linda , even I've resorted to wearing a hat . I found one of my dear old Dads " beany " hats , I used to love seeing him in that hat , looking all bright and summery (sp?) , I'm glad I kept it because now it is keeping my head cooler and it makes him feel close for a little while :-) |

Are you sure it isn't the dread LIly beetle that is causeing the damage Tec ? Keep a close eye out for a bright red , rather attractive beetle and if you spot it kill the begger :-| :-| :-

Slugs are not too bad here at the moment with it being so dry - if it rains it will be like the whacky races out there :-D |

I wish the slugs in my garden would burst :-| I have quite a healthy population of small frogs and they must be making an impact , so I haven't seen the amount of slugs as where about last year ... thank God . I think the long cold winter was at least good for killing those fat blighters off :-P |
