Hello everyone :-)

My daughter, OH and 3 grand-daughters have just gone after coming for a visit and all had tea together. My 3 grand-daughters are all off for a week to Ibiza ( lucky girls )
just hope they are all safe.
My eldest grand-daughter went down to London last weekend on a coach with a load of friends to the EDC concert, on the way back the stupid coach driver fell asleep at the wheel and nearly crashed the coach :-0 if it hadn't been for some of the lads on the coach being awake god know's how things would have turned out :-(

Linda hope little sister is still improving and that she will soon be home <3

Sue, hope thing's are ok with you and the family, take care <3

Tec, hope you had a better sleep last night, I don't have to much of a problem with being able to have all window's open and back door, so the flat is quite cool through the night.

Amanda, glad to see you got your teeth sorted out, BTW I have been awarded DHP till October and it has been back dated from April so instead of being in arrears I am now in credit :-)

Berona hope you are well, how long have your family gone away for.

~~~~~~~ Sylvia, Persie, Carolee and Huia <3
Hi Sue, and everyone
still sunny and hot here, though not as hot as you guys ................. only about 25/26C in the shade in my back garden.
We've had sun now for 25 days, no rain for about 26/27 days ................. and sun forecast at least up to the weekend
We've been on watering restrictions since May ................ as always!!
OH has been watering the veggies, let's the lawn and flower beds go hang!
But the City also planted a new street tree (a flowering cherry) on the boulevard outside our house in early May .................. and we are responsible for watering it. So he has to put a bucket of water in the "well" every other day or so.
Linda ................ so pleased that "baby sister" is doing so well. xxx
We had just over a week in Fiji on our way home from Australia in 1976. We stayed in a small, Fijian-run hotel near Sigatoka, between Nandi and Suva. We slept in burres .......... but the hotel was connected with the grand old Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva, and we got a guided tour of that hotel. Wonderful!!
There was a native village next door, and a little old lady used to walk along the beach every day selling little green oranges (delicious!).
Our daughter was about 27 months old at the time, her hair was a mass of golden curls ................. and the Fijians just loved her. This old lady would sit down next to J, and hand her an orange. I'd try to pay her, and she'd just hand J another orange!
We went to a kava ceremonies at the village ................ and I have some wonderful photos of J sitting in the middle of a group of HUGE warriors ............ all just as intrigued with each other! The warriors would also come along the beach to play with her.
They were wonderful people.
One of my classmates from uni now lives in Suva, with his partner ............... we keep hoping that we might be able to pay another visit down there, and see R
Take care, everyone
Good Morning Berona,
Just nipped in before I turn in. Reluctant to go to bed as it's so hot and sticky.
How I envy your daughter and her family holidaying in Fiji - how lovely. I expect Suva looks so different now.
I found the Fijians so friendly, and once had a long conversation with a very large Fijian policeman who joined me on a bench in the botanical gardens Suva. We talked of Western culture and in his opinion the detrimental effect it had on Fijian women. He was also very concerned at the numbers of Asian immigrants into the Fiji Islands, and I believe there was later serious tensions over that issue.
I hope that your family have a wonderful holiday.
Must go to bed now, though it's too hot to sleep. I can see the day coming when we will need air con as you do there.
Goodnight - Enjoy your day, you too Sue, and Persie.
Tec :-)
Did I make it before everyone went to bed? I'm improving!!!
- pleasant looking day coming up, but if the wind picks up, it will be cold again. Can't expect anything else really, only some rain wouldn't go astray here.
I'm missing my daughter and her family. They flew to Fiji on Monday - the whole family. Eldest grandson was 18 yesterday and now that he is working this year, they decided to have one 'family' holiday before the children start deciding to do their own thing. Sent photos via FB - and looks like they are lapping up luxury.
Seems strange receiving emails and photos from Fiji - just the same as I receive them daily from her - when she is only ten minutes away from me.
I wish I had been able to contact my family and friends like that when I was away in the fifties. I had to write separate letters, which took 4 to 5 days to reach their destination.
Amanda you snuck up on me while I went to make a sandwich :-)
Yes it is strange how we cross each others minds, when as you say, we have never even met, but then through the thread our lives become part of each others, in that we share our daily lives, up and downs, triumphs and disasters.
I think we get to know each others characters through our writings.
It is very interesting really
Good evening Tec . Sorry to know you bit your tongue , I hope it isn't to sore :-( It is funny how we all cross each others minds even though we have never met in the real world :-)
I expect you loitered near the freezers in your co-op .... lol Supermarkets are lovely and cool , then you have to step back outside eventually ......phew !
I'm hoping it will pelt down during the night . We are fed up with watering the allotment :-(
Pleased to see that baby sister is making progress Linda.
We haven't had any rain here, and no thunderstorms. It is still horribly hot here.
It was even a pleasure to walk around the Co-op today, the air conditioning was a welcome relief :-D
Amanda - Glad the tooth has been sorted out. I bit my tongue yesterday, and thought of you straight away - how flattering is that :-D
Just popping in to say I'm so pleased to know that " baby sister " is progressing well :-) <3 It must be a tremendious relief to you all .
I had my broken teeth attended to yesterday and can eat again without fear ....lol
We had a bit of thunder and lightening earler today but now much of the wet stuff . It is humid and very still here at the present , hopefully we will get rain rain rain tonight .
I'll pop back later to see if anyone is about
:-)
It is so humid here as well as hot, 32 yesterday I think. There was some rain overnight, huge drops but that didn't last long. It has done the same this morning, but it hasn't cleared the air.
The baby is coming on well, now she has been moved from the intensive care room, hopefully she will progress faster. As well as her, there were two tiny babies, one seem fairly stable now, but the other is only 21 weeks gestation and they are working so hard to try and keep it alive.
Berona Report 23 Jul 2013 00:46
Hello everyone. Nice sunny day outside, but low temps overnight (5c) and the best they can forecast is 16c for to-day. No mention of humidity, but they are talking about winds now - that makes us feel colder!
Anyone know where Sue is? Did I miss something? If nobody knows, I hope it is only computer problems.
Linda - I'm pleased to hear of the progress of the 'nameless one'. Hope she continues to improve.
Persie - Sorry to hear about the quake. I hope it didn't upset your daughter too much - I can't imagine anyone actually gets used to them. :-0
You do seem to get some freaky weather there. That wind on the bus must have been frightening.
Glad you like my choice of music :-D I might put a couple more on that thread.
No I never had my own group - but somewhere I have a 45 called Turkish Coffee, but can't remember who it's by. I always liked it.
Tecwyn Report 22 Jul 2013 23:20
Sylvia you seem to have had a good weekend away at the cabin - I like the sound of the soapstone bear :-D
I had postcard from Vancouver today depicting the "White Rock" beneath Mt Baker. It looks beautiful in the sunset.
Linda - Glad you were able to have a cuddle of your new grand daughter today.
Good news that she is no longer in the incubator and now in a cot, and has had some of the restrictions removed. Hope every day brings new progress.
I know it is much hotter down there, and while suffering the heat here today I wondered how you would be coping with it.
I have had enough of the heat now, and will be so relieved when it cools off.
I remember they have cracking thunderstorms down there when they have one, so I hope you don't get disturbed during the night. Take care. Cwtches to Eve.
Good improvement Linda going from incubator to cot.
Onward and upward and better and better... :-)
I am glad that your weekend went well Sylvia.
I am sorry to hear about the quake Perse, I hope everyone is OK
It has been horrifically hot here today, the worst thing is the humidity. There are supposed to be thunder storms tomorrow, I hope things will cool down a bit.
I had my first cuddle with the nameless little one today, she is so tiny, but is looking better. She now just has one cannula and has had the oxygen removed. She has lost some weight, but not that much. My daughter is trying to feed her, but she is very sleepy most of the time. The good news is that this evening,she has been moved out of the high dependency room and into a room full of cots rather than incubators
Hi Sue, and everyone
I've just read back a couple of pages
Linda ............... I'm glad that the baby arrived safely, what a good weight!! I hope that she is now having all the tests done, and hope that all goes well.
We had a lovely time up north. We didn't stay in the cabin, it is completely empty now except for 3 bed frames. Instead we did as we did last year .............. stayed in a hotel in town, with an air conditioned room :-D :-D
We went out to the cabin (about an hour's drive from the town) on Friday............... it was the loveliest view from the gate ................. about half an acre or so of white!
All the Marguerites were in full flower, and standing about knee high above the grass.
OH managed to get all the work done that he could do on that one day, so we mooched around town on Saturday ........ we went to our favourite gallery, and I gave in and bought another soapstone carved bear. Had sworn I didn't need another one, but ..........
Remember the one I had as my avatar 18 months ago, with the pink stole slung around his shoulder??? Well, he's got a pal!! :-D :-D
We managed to meet up with the realtor on Saturday afternoon, he was having a very busy weekend with clients! We liked him, face-to-face, and he seemed "our kind", if you understand what I mean.
The weather was lovely ................ we had a bit of rain on Thursday as we neared the end of our journey, but after that, it was hot and sunny!
Thank heavens for an air conditioned car. :-D :-D :-D
A good drive home yesterday, picking up some of the new season's fruit from a farm stand on the way ............ apricots, peaches, cherries, and 2 lemon cucumbers.
I have another trip to the doc's this afternoon to see if a week on the new drug has achieved anything.
it is still hot here, although slightly cooler than it was .............. around or below 25C instead of above. It is forecast to last at least until the weekend.
take care, everyone
My daughter said it was the first time she had been outside during a quake.. that was during the 6.5 one yesterday. She was waiting for a bus to go into Wellington city. She still went in to town but the place where she had an appointment could not turn their siren off.
Her work advised all staff to stay home today... buildings were being assessed. She has a new large apple mac and has decided to put it down on the floor at night, does not want it to crash to the floor. She said it was the worst quake she has been in.. and she is well used to them.
SIL and August are in Palmerston North for the school hols with August's cousins.
The other week was a bad storm and she said the bus was shaking all over the place with the wind 200km per hr. She was worried when the wind screen wipers stopped and thought they might have to get off the bus and wait for another one.
Hello Persie. Nice to see you on here. Thanks for nudging me about the books. I only finished reading the second book last night and because I had the due date as 27th, I had nothing prepared for either of Ann's threads. It was all done in a hurry. I hope it makes sense.
Heard about the tremors in the South Island. Much damage? Apparently, not as much as Christchurch was, or we would have heard more.
A song called "Turkish Coffee" Tec? or did you have your own pop group?
Otherwise I am familiar with your choices and approve.
