Hello all. Nobody here again, but that's OK. Hope you are all sleeping well or having a nice day. Good to see you back, Sue. I was concerned about you.
Looks like a nice sunny day outside - but a little too cold for me. Hope you up-toppers are having good weather with not too much humidity.

My dtr and family are having a great time in Fiji. She says the people are all so nice and friendly. When the restaurant people learned that they were celebrating the eldest son's 18th, they turned it into a party and the staff all gathered around and sang to him. I can imagine his mixture of enjoyment and embarrassment!

Goodnight Tec - I hope you and the Duchess can sleep more comfortably tonight <3

I don't remember any reports of bombs actually detonating, but I suppose they must have done, especially if disturbed by something.

If the bombs hit the ground at a certain angle they would burrow, sometimes quite deeply, into the soil, and lay undisturbed for years.

You do hear of building sites coming to an abrupt halt because they have discovered a bomb.

Well I must go to bed. it is a bit cooler here tonight, so we might even sleep :-)

Enjoy your day Sue, whatever you're up to.

Goodnight,
Tec :-)

Have there been reports of bombs going off years after the war ended?

OH said that there were some bombs found by the river when he was a boy. He said they used to throw rocks at them :-0

Tecwyn Report 25 Jul 2013 23:26

I think if Hitler had come across some of the locals of Snowdonia he would have soon scarpered back to where he belonged :-D.

When I was a boy we spent our lives playing on the bomb sites and derelict bombed buildings.
We often found unexploded incendiary bombs, shrapnel that was highly prized.
One day the bomb squad turned up and dug our back garden up - they found a big bomb. We had been playing there for years.
They couldn't be everywhere at once, and reports of bombs being seen to have dropped but not exploded were filed until they could get to them. :-0

SueMaid Report 25 Jul 2013 23:16

I can imagine Hitler roaming the hills of Snowdonia with a bewildered look on his face :-D

I never thought about a boat or ship hitting the bomb - what a disaster that would have been. I was also thinking that it's the time of year for tourists and what could have happened if some children had found it. Depending on what they did with it that also could have been a disaster. Not a good way to encourage tourists to the area :-0

Tecwyn Report 25 Jul 2013 23:11

They do turn up from time to time. The theory is that this one was washed up on the tide as it appeared to have been in the sea for some time, not so good if a ship or fishing boat had hit it.
I don't think this area saw too much bombing in the war - although they must have expected an invasion along this coastline as the built anti-tank traps here and there.

If Hitler had landed here he would have got lost :-D and he'd never have understood the locals :-D

I've often heard of unexploded bombs being found in different areas of Britain. How exciting although if it had gone off unexpectedly I doubt anyone would have been laughing :-D

It is a cats instinct to hunt and kill, but sad to see the dove die that way, they had become very tame.

Pleased that you son grabbed the cat after the nest - hope the cat stayed away.
Nature is cruel - I watched two male blackbirds fight to the death recently - what a scrap that was, until one was killed.

Excitement in the village - a man found an unexploded WW2 bomb on the beach, so the beach was cordoned off, and the Royal Navy bomb squad arrived to carry out a controlled explosion. Amazing after all this time.

SueMaid Report 25 Jul 2013 22:39

Hello Tec :-)

Sadly that's what happens at times to birds. We can't really blame the cats either as it's natural instinct. Very sad for the lone dove :-(

We have bushland behind our house and in one tree was a nest of crimson rosellas. One day my youngest son who was about 16 at the time gave a blood curdling yell, opened the gate in the back fence and raced over to the tree. It seemed within seconds that he grabbed this large cat that was climbing the tree obviously attracted by the sound of the babies. The mother was frantically flapping around trying to frighten off the cat but amazingly left my son alone. Of course the cat may have gone back later but at least my son felt at the time that he had saved them.

I used to love watching little Molly race around after lizards - never caught one but I'm sure they would play games with her :-D

Good Morning Sue,

Sounds like you had a relaxing time on the verandah watching the birds and the world pass by. Nice to do that. If I spend any time in the front garden someone always stops to talk to me, usually about the flowers - I must say it all looks rather splendid at the moment, with huge red geraniums, Asiatic lily's, agapanthus, and tubs of pinks, although they are actually white, and smell of cloves.

Sad event this morning though - we have a pair of collared doves that have visited us every day for a few years. I feed them every day. Anyway I opened the door this morning to find masses of feathers, obviously a dove. She had been got by a cat I imagine. Sadly her mate turned up alone during the day - quite sad. We don't have many cats around, but a young one has taken to visiting the garden lately, unless Taffy is around, and he hates cats.

Esme Jade - a beautiful name for a beautiful little girl. I can't wait to see photos of Esme with Eve.

It's been quite chilly although sunny here the last couple of days. We pottered in the garden yesterday although there isn't much to do. After all the rain we had a few weeks ago the weeds are flourishing but I think I've got them all now. We then sat on the verandah for coffee and watched two little fairy wrens hopping around the lawn and one of our honey eaters having lunch on our grevillea shrub. Several people were walking their dogs and waved to us. It was very pleasant.

Tecwyn Report 25 Jul 2013 22:08

I'm sure Eve will soon get used to calling "my baby sister" by her name in due course - unless Esme insists on calling Eve "my big sister" throughout their lives :-D

Hello Carolee - hope you are well and getting through winter ok.

Hello Diane - How are you today? a little cooler here, with a nice breeze. We had a little rain overnight, but not enough to do any good.

Hello everyone,

Linda, Congratulations on the birth of your granddaughter "baby sister" I'm glad things are picking up with her, hopefully she will be home soon <3

Hi Diane, what's a DHP? I hope its something really good :-D

I really do like the new Princes name, bar the Louis he was named after my GG Grandfather, though he dropped the George and was known as just plain old Alexander which he only did just to make my life difficult there for a while, naughty man! My maternal grandmother's name was Alexandra.

I hope everyone is as well as can be :-)

I am just looking in before I go out on a mission to buy various items for my daughter. Eve has been safely delivered to nursery and her parents are at the hospital. Apparently they have decided on the name andmay announce it today.

As the new prince is called George, Alexander, Louis , I suggested that she should be called Georgina ,Alexandra, Louise but I don't think they will go along with that. I just hope it isn't something too outlandish, they have mentioned a couple of discarded ones from the shortlist which I wasn't keen on

There was a lot off rain overnight here, but it is sunny again now and still very humid, it looks like more rain, I had better head out while I can
