Hi Sue, and everyone

Jem ............. hope all is going well with your daughter and her baby.

It rained last night (ie, Wednesday)!

But not until after midnight ...... so that means no rain at all fell at the Airport (the official weather station) during July. So, a new record.

Not much fell, though ............... and today was lovely and sunny, and a nice 22/23C

It had clouded over by the end of the afternoon, so maybe we will get more rain overnight and on Friday.

It IS a long weekend here, after all :-)

Monday is BC Day

Tec ...............

are we twins??????

My birthday is also in January, and I also started school after Easter!

But they held me back for an extra year in the Infants, because they thought I was too young .........

........ when I finally went to the Primary section, the teacher said "Ah, so you've decided to come, have you?"

An older girl said my name had been called out at Registration every morning during the previous year!

Granddaughter 4 is refusing to go to bed here- she has never slept here before and is missing Mammy and Daddy.
Rang hospital and it's not going to well- may have to go to Caesarian. So I'm going to take her home to her own bed and stay there.

Goodnight Everyone. Let you all know in morning-evening
Love Jemx <3

Jemima - As Sue said, she has met me - and amazingly she still speaks to me :-D

That was a very special day in my life when I met Sue and Linda - they came out of their way to meet me, and that meant so much.

Well I'd better go to bed,

Enjoy your day Sue,

Sleep well Jemima - Hope you are not up all night eating toffees and waiting for news :-D

Hello Berona, and Persie,

Goodnight,
Tec.

Thank you, Jem. Yes they are all very dear friends.

My father's lot were Non-Conformist too, Tec. Ancestry has my grandfather and his siblings all baptised in the local Baptist chapel when they were all adults. Most of them were buried in the chapel's graveyard but my grandparents must have opted out of the chapel because they are buried in the local Anglican church.

It's lovely that you were all able to meet. I have noticed that you all seem to be very dear friends to each other. Also the "banter" that you all have shows your closeness and that was one of the things that drew me to this thread!

Sorry that you miss your cousin Sue (hug)

Yes Jemima, it is fantastic that we can research family history without leaving home. Without the computer and access to the records I doubt I would know anything at all.
Although so much more can be discovered in graveyards. Many of my ancestors were Welsh Non Conformists, so you really need to visit the chapels they used to inspect old records.

Jem - I have met Tec and Linda. It was my very great pleasure to do so :-)

Thankfully I did get to meet my cousin a few years before he died. He was a lovely man and I very much miss his funny emails giving me information that I had sent him only a few days before :-)

I hope you get something positive back from the LFB - maybe they just have one person employed to research enquiries such as yours.

The army records would be worth getting.
I want to get my grandfathers army records. He fought in WW1, but all I have is a medal with his name, number, and regiment. I think I can get something back from that though.

How sad Sue , that your cousin died before you could visit him. It was indeed amazing that you accessed all that information before leaving.

Isn't it a strange feeling when you find a grave of an ancestor. I remember when I first went down to the graveyards in the area they lived, after doing GR and finding my 3x Great Uncle and saying You don't know me but I'm your sister Elizabeth's Great Great Granddaughter.
I then went on to find Elizabeth and all her nearest relatives- in the Chapelyard that my father is buried in. We used to go down to tend the graves every year and never knew who all these people were. In fact nearly all of them are connected to me in one way or another!

Tec, Haverfordwest is the registration area my family were from. My Great Grandmother was living in Haverfordwest when she died. It's a shame that you are unable to travel. Sorry about your OH's diabetes. It's wonderful that we are now able to do so much research on-line and also make friends without having to go anywhere!

Just an acknowledgement that they received my letter. I don't hold great hopes that much will come back and it supposedly takes quite awhile. We'll see. I would also like my FIL's army records but haven't got around to it yet.

Sue, it does seem that in a strange way your second cousin did lead you to find those graves after he had passed away.

Incidently did you ever hear back from the London Fire Brigade records office?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 1 Aug 2013 23:03

What a terrible waste of eclairs :-D

I know what you mean about getting away to do some research Jemima. My Gt. Grandmother was from Pembrokeshire - Haverfordwest. While most of my maternal ancestors were from the farming community in the Vale of Glamorgan.
There are lots of places down there I would like to go to research, but need at least a week.
Unfortunately, my OH can't travel, and can't be left, so I can't go.

What a wonderful ancestor to have :-)

You won't know the story that I think I've told on here before, Jem. My OH and I went to the UK to visit family and friends. About two months before we left on our travels my dear second cousin passed away. I met him through GR. He knew we were coming over but sadly he died suddenly. About a month after he passed away and just before we left Aus. I was sitting on the computer and doing some research and a load of burial records came up on a site I use often. I've never seen them before but apparently they had been on the site for awhile. I found where so many family members were buried including the position their graves are in the graveyards. I was able to visit all of them. I often wonder if my cousin led me to them as he had done so much research.

Sue-
There are 2 meanings to Jemima Fawr-

Big Jemima- She was reputedly a large manly woman with red hair. A battleaxe who you wouldn't like to come across on a dark night if you were up to no good!!!!! :-D :-D

Jemima The Great- Great because of her part in the invasion. She had a pension from the British Government for the rest of her life.

She liked -Eclairs- She chewed them up and spat them out!!! :-D :-D :-D

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 1 Aug 2013 22:43

Of course I'm not scared - I'm in Australia :-D Wonder why they called her Big Jemima :-D Did she like toffees?

JemimaFawr

JemimaFawr Report 1 Aug 2013 22:42

I haven't yet Sue, although I have a lot of documentation on file, and photographs of the memorial stone that my Great Aunt Nesta took some years ago. There is also a pub in Fishguard that has all the memorabilia, that I want to visit.

When we get down to Pembrokeshire, I go to the little Chapel my father and many of my relatives are buried in, and the nearby graveyards, I always find more and more to go on, and never manage to get further afield!

When my Grandson who lives with me is old enough to be here on his own, I would like to spend a week down there to research. Going down for just the day is not enough time.

Goodnight Linda - sleep well if you can.

It's stifling hot here too, will be a very uncomfortable night - think I'll sleep in the garden :-D
