I had a good sleep last night. Was in bed for 12 hours. Feel a little better today. Have attack of angina, and the ulcer on my leg is horrendous and very painful now.
Haven't done anything today except see to meals.

We had a house with wooden floors. In one room there was a gap between floor and skirting board of about one and a half inches, all the way round.
I crawled under the floor between the joists, and put a car jack under centre of floor.
There was suddenly an almighty crack, and the whole floor lifted, closing the gap all round. Worked my way round under the floor placing wooden wedges between floor boards and joists...........it worked :-D

Hello Tec...

At our previous house there was a crack in the brick base.. chap down right of way behind us had carved out part of the land and this caused a slope in our house.. a marble would roll down the kitchen floor... so we got a five ton jack and dug under the brick base and jacked up the house.. straightened it and in that back corner we dug a huge hole.. put in these huge buckets and filled them with concrete and steel rods etc.. then came along the brick wall and put another inner brick wall and filled that with grouting and rods and also dug another hole and put reinforcing down that.. and another smaller one underneath the house as well.. The garage went right through under the house front to back and you had to go down a sloped driveway to it.

Engineers said we had made a structurally sound house that would survive any earthquake... As a leveller we would have two detergent bottles with a hose between them with him up one end of place and me the other crawling around in the loose earth, holding the bottle up to the underneath of the floor boards to get it level... then there was the performance of making sure all interior doors would open and shut okay and that the windows would not jam... and a baby crawling around the floor.

Enjoy your shower Persie

Hello Tec, I hope that you are feeling better today

Why on earth would you want to jack up a floor?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 10 Aug 2013 21:51

I once jacked up a wooden floor...........

Hello :-)

Persephone

Persephone Report 10 Aug 2013 21:51

You cannot jack that bit up much there is dampcourse, paper and then the corrugated iron roof.. it is where one would normally have an attic I guess.. we have one of those as well...but that was because he fell through the ceiling once in the hallway so we have fold down stairs to get up there.

When you walk in our front door you are in the lounge it is open plan and you can see across to kichen.A room to the right just inside front door is ours with the mezzanine above wardrobe and ensuite and then further along is another door on the right to the hallway. The other rooms are off this.

Now off to the shower...

LindainHerriotCountry Report 10 Aug 2013 21:43

You are a busy bee.

The thought of jacking a ceiling up is an odd concept as all houses here are brick built

Persephone

Persephone Report 10 Aug 2013 21:41

I think I should go back to bed, been up since 5.30am.

No... I will go and have my shower to wake me up again

We are still working on our bedroom..where the plaster board stopped at normal ceiling level the previous owners put a rail (bit like a picture rail) and then above that is hardboard.. we decided we would take rail off and put plasterboard the rest of the way up... uh oh.. that bit was a bit further out into the room than the plaster board so all the studs and joists are sticking out by less than an inch.. so now we have to go around the room.. jacking up the ceiling and removing and shifting them back....himself said to me this will put us back about two years... re shifting house..

Last week we were capping a fence at a property and then on Friday new under bench cupboards went in at a tenants house.. Monday there is a surveyor coming to find the boundary peg at one of the properties so as we can fence that one off. It is never ending...

Hence the thought of going back to bed is quite a good one. :-)

It is a very common hospital acquired infection, it was because of the rise in incidences of it that all the strict hygiene regulations such as using gel washes were put in place. It is commonly found on the sites of catheters, feeding tubes etc.

My dad had it when he was in hospital for long term recuperation after an operation. They usually put the patient in a room of their own with strict hygiene regulations until it has been treated.

When my dad had it, we had to put on a plastic apron and shoe covers, wash our hands etc. We then watched most of the nurses totally flouting the rules, sitting on the bed, going into the next patient without washing their hands etc.

Having said that, I have been very impressed at the standards on the neonatal unit where Esme is. hey are very strict about visitors washing then gelling their hands, even little eve has the routine off pat. The nurses are really thorough about cleaning their hands as they move from one crib to the next.

If you google it you can see photos of some horrendous ulcers caused by it.

Berona Report 10 Aug 2013 07:14

Thanks Huia. Can't say I've heard of it - nor can I relate it to anything which I may know of under another name. I should have thought of Goodling it myself.

I googled it, Berona. It is Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, a bacterium responsible for several difficult-to-treat infections in humans.

Good to know the babies are still progressing favourably. However, can someone please enlighten me on what MRSA is?

SueMaid Report 9 Aug 2013 22:49

Hello everyone :-)

Tec must be very tired to be going off to bed so early - hope you get a good night's sleep and feel much better in the morning <3

The babies are both doing well which is lovely to hear. So nice that Esme is going home even though mum will be tired and it's great that your daughter is able to feed the little man, Jem.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 9 Aug 2013 21:31

I hope you sleep well and feel better tomorrow Tec

I am glad that your grandson is improving Jem. MRSA is such a common infection, lots of people carry it without knowing it. If he is in his own room, at least your daughter will be able to be with him whenever she wants to be

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 9 Aug 2013 21:10

So pleased to see that Esme will be allowed home on Sunday Linda. It will be more normal, and natural for everyone, though the feeding regime will be tiring for her mum. Hopefully the feeding problem can be sorted out soon, but as you say, that Esme is now allowed home is a major step forward.

You must inform the Palace of your holiday arrangements, in order that they can take your availability into consideration :-D :-D

Well as I'm extremely tired this evening I am going to bed early.

Play nicely, and be kind to each other.

Goodnight,
Tec

Hi Linda,

Good news that Esme is coming home on Sunday. My heart is going out to you all. I hope that they will find out what is wrong soon, so that they can put it right.

Our baby, thankfully, is improving. My daughter was able to feed him today. He is no longer being fed through tube in his nose.

He has tested positive for MRSA though, but is not showing symptoms. The hospital has assured my daughter that it is not a problem and that they have the antibiotics there for him.
He's in a room of his own with his own nurse.

Thinking about you and your family- Love Jem<3
