I sometimes wonder with very elderly people if they worry when someone of their age or younger die. Perhaps they see their own mortality. Although my mother had loads of cards popped into the post box very few of her neighbours came to the funeral but some of their family members did.

Persie, you may well be right, with all the upheaval, and moving with five children isn't easy. I think their move was quite chaotic anyway, and I know they were very stressed about it all. I'm sure the children will soon settle once they start their new school. They are moving to a town situation, so will miss the freedom they had in this rural/coastal area. There will on the other hand be lots of facilities aimed at children and young people that we don't have here.

Your parents former neighbours do sound a bit odd - but you can never tell with people really.

Hi Persie - you have been busy.

When my father died I went to tell some of the neighbours as they had all lived there for many years. I had mixed reactions including one man who said "thank you" and then closed the door on me. Also one woman who kept saying "who is this you're talking about"? I felt a bit silly but the other neighbours were lovely.

Tec ..Perhaps with their upheaval they did not think.. sometimes when we gather our thoughts later we say oh I should have done such and such... and then still don't rectify.. then think it too late.. it sort of roly polys...

I tried to do the right thing by my father's neighbours and thank them etc.. and took a gift to his next door neighbour and she did not even open it while we were there or thank me.. just took it an put it on the floor by her chair.

We called again to tell her and him when Dad died and she said oh I thought he probably already had. They got on so well with my parents, I was quite shocked when they didn't come to the funeral. When only a few years before they were his first visitors when he was in hospital beat me to it and then rang me to ask why I hadn't been. I was at work and he had only been back from his operation a couple of hours earlier.

Our disabled cat trained the dog next door, she had had enough of him barking at her so she hid around the corner of the garage and when he came past he got a whack on the nose. After that he would come over and be ever so polite to both of the cats. It was very funny to watch, at least she could run and go up a tree where has the other cat couldn't run or climb he would fall over or leap at trees and go splat and cling on like a velcro cat.

:-0 :-)

Goodnight Linda - sweet dreams <3

I took on some orchids when they were offered by a neighbour who was moving away. They were very easy ones to look after so that gave me confidence to buy a couple of orchids that are a little more difficult to grow. I've had success with them. The good thing is that they all flower at slightly different times in Spring so I have a good show for awhile.

Your agapanthus sound like they are doing very well :-)

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 10 Aug 2013 22:55

The orchids sound very exciting Sue - I've never been brave enough to try them.

My agapanthus are sensational at the moment - the are 18 flower heads. Pale blue, dark blue, and white.

It was the village flower show today, but of course I couldn't go. They usually have a splendid display, and there is great rivalry between the vegetable growers and their exhibits :-D

Goodnight Linda - sleep well.

I did some reorganising so my orchids can be on show when they start flowering. Some have tiny buds so I should have a good show. My SIL gave me a lovely book on caring for orchids and I can see that one of the orchids I was given will be spectacular when it flowers.

Good morning Sue

We spent the afternoon working on the allotment. I cut out all the rest of the Raspberry canes which took quite a long time as we have lots of them. I need to tie all of the new canes onto the ropes now

Hello Sue - Glad you are having some nice weather. It will help shorten the winter. I think it was warmer there than here today. I think it was 18 C, and cloudy today.

Tecwyn Report 10 Aug 2013 22:37

It is a shame to leave the way they did - perhaps they didn't think, or maybe they thought it would unsettle the children even more to say goodbye.
I was talking to them about the move a few weeks ago, and the 5yr old asked his mother could I go with them :-D.
I apparently could have his bed, and he would sleep on the floor :-)

There is no way Taffy would be friends with that, or any cat :-D

SueMaid Report 10 Aug 2013 22:36

Hello everyone :-)

Poor you, Tec - I'm sorry you're in pain. How odd that the children weren't brought around for you to say goodbye - and how sad for you and them.

The sun is shining and we are hoping for a nice day. Yesterday the temperature got to 21C which is amazing for August although we did have two very cold days last week. It is supposed to reach 20C. We did some work in the garden yesterday although at this time of year there isn't much to do.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 10 Aug 2013 22:30

Oh that is such a shame that they have left without saying goodbye.

You will have to formally introduce Taffy to the white cat, then they will be friends

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 10 Aug 2013 22:27

Yes Ma-am.......... :-D

I have no option at the moment, but to leave everything. Can't work on one foot.

The white cat came back to visit us today. I think she belongs to the doctor that bought a house down the road as a holiday home. I notice there are cars on the drive, so they must be there.
Have to make sure Taffy isn't around as he hates cats :-D

My mini fan club finally moved away today - we are a little sad, and miffed because they didn't bring the children to say goodbye. We don't have their new address so won't be able to send birthday presents etc. People are strange :-(
Those children have come to mean a lot to us over the ten years since they started arriving.

Yes I will see the nurses on Monday. Hobbling about like an old man - yes, I know I am - using a walking stick, and the Duchess's stairlift.

Just when I have so much to do Grrr :-|

LindainHerriotCountry Report 10 Aug 2013 22:08

Goodness Tec, I hope you are going to see your nurse friends to get your ulcer dressed

I always imagined you in a Greek flowing dress Persie, but now I have revised my vision to a pair of workman's overalls

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 10 Aug 2013 22:05

Hello Persie,

My word..........I thought I had taken on some major projects, but nothing compared to you. You are very brave.
