Poor little granddaughter, it will be hard not to be the bay any more. My daughter seems to be very good at letting Eve help with nappy changing and passing bottles over etc.

Linda- I think Granddaughter 4 is finding it hard, but my daughter is not recognising it. She wants to touch him all the time, and my daughter is impatient with it.

When we were there the other evening, Grandson 1 told me that she was crying in the other room. The problem is that, because Granddaughter 3 was still-born- the first child from my daughters marriage, Granddaughter 4 (understandably) became the centre of their world. Unfortunately, she got a little spoilt. Now there's a new baby, I think she's very confused.

I frequently behave in an abandoned way - but usually with my clothes on :-D

Sue - My youngest brother suffered terribly from the age of three with asthma - consequently when it was time to start school he missed many days attendance due to illness - and he was very ill.

It was arranged by the school for him to attend a "special" school. He was picked up every day by coach and taken to another town.
The other children at the school had very serious learning difficulties, while my brother was really very bright and learnt well.
There was no teaching as such at that school, they played with and occupied the children only.
As a result when he was allowed to join mainstream school aged nine, he was way behind the others. My mother spent a lot of time teaching him to read etc while he was at that school.
The current trend here now is to get as many children into mainstream school as possible. My daughter has three children in her class that require special attention, but they are benefitting from being at mainstream school.

Hi Huia-
Glad that you have not been affected by the Earthquake :-)

Interesting assignment.I have no idea what they mean by negative space, but what came to my mind was something like depression- like when people say "I have been in a bad/dark place". But how would you go about photographing something to do with a theme like that?! :-S
I expect that you carry your camera with you most of the time, to capture things as they happen.

SueMaid Report 16 Aug 2013 22:48

Bye, Huia - enjoy your day :-)

I think we always find it easy to speak up for other people especially our family, Tec. I remember getting very annoyed with a woman who suggested that Aimee should go to a 'special' school as she wouldn't cope in a mainstream school. How wrong she was and I have had the pleasure of letting her know how well Aimee is doing.

No coffee for me, thanks Tec. I have had my 2 glasses of water. Don't drink coffee and don't often drink tea now.

I am off now to bring some firewood in from the shed, and to cut some kindling. See you all another time.

Huia Report 16 Aug 2013 22:35

Yes, Sue, I was wondering if I could persuade some man or woman to strip off and dance with abandon for me to photograph! Or at least pose in an abandoned way. :-D

Huia Report 16 Aug 2013 22:33

Sue (and others), the earthquake is centered near Seddon in the top of the South Island, and it was worse there, but also felt heavily in Wellington. According to the newspaper it was felt from Auckland to Christchurch, but I haven't noticed it. I must be insensitive. My niece is down near Wellington, but otherwise no close relatives. We have in the past had some earthquakes in our area, but nowhere near as big as those ones they are having at Seddon.

I've had a cup of coffee but no breakfast yet, Huia :-) Negative Space - not sure about that one but Abandoned has many possibilities.

This site is slow for me too :-(

Sue I remember when my mother was very ill in hospital I certainly made a few people jump to attention, because it was necessary at times, but am strangely reluctant to do it for myself, but may have to now.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 16 Aug 2013 22:27

Huia - I can understand the "Abandoned" subject, and its possibilities, but Negative Space is a mystery. P lease let us know what is means when you find out.

SueMaid Report 16 Aug 2013 22:26

Oh dear - everyone is in the wars.

I speak up with medical staff only because I have worked in our local hospital for such a long time. When my father was ill and in hospital I could see the fear on the staffs' faces when I came through the door :-|

I'm sorry your leg is still painful, Tec - it must be very difficult to do the things around the home that need to be done. I hope you manage to get some rest.

Linda - there is nothing worse than a summer cold. Hope you feel better soon. Your poor daughter - I hope all is well. I do remember that she wasn't well after Eve was born and you were so worried.

Jem - ouch :-0

Hello Huia - hope you don't have family in the earthquake area.

Huia Report 16 Aug 2013 22:22

Hello Jemima (forgot to say that before, and hello Tec and Linda). I have started sorting out which photos I will be using for our next club night. The set subject is Abandoned, or Negative Space (whatever that means). I have a photo I took of an old boot that had been dug up in a paddock recently, might have been one of my OH's old boots. Also some photos of empty cicada skins. They fit the topic of abandoned. I have several photos in mind for the open subject. (We can enter 2 in each subject). I might have to get some more frames (I think they are called mats) made to fit some of the photos when I have got them printed.
