Diane although you will still have to do some work, with your hip being so painful, maybe these few weeks of a lightened workload will be beneficial from your point of view, and is well timed.
I expect that you are looking forward to having Christmas at home for a change.

Tec...............10-17pm.

Diane Report 2 Dec 2010 23:25

Yes Tec I should get a bit of a rest and at least when I do go to work I won't have to get up so early in the morning. I only usually spend 2 to 3 hrs at work christmas day but having the whole day and probably boxing day as well will mean I can go out if I choose to to have a drink or just relax christmas evening at home and have a drink which I can't normally do when I work boxing day lol, the same will apply new year.

Well Tec time for me to go to bed hun
Good night to you and OH sleep well and stay warm.

Bye to you Berona and hope your day improve's weather wise hun.

~~~~~~~~~to all who look in later.
Enjoy your day Berona, and all Down Under,
I hope you have a good nights sleep Diane,
Goodnight,
Berona Report 2 Dec 2010 23:43
Why does everybody ask ME what everybody else wants for Christmas? I have no idea what to buy anybody myself, let alone what others can buy them. I have been flitting back and forth to my emails trying to make suggestions. I think we have the grandchildren covered except for Master 7. Still working on that one and what I can get for the adults. Problem is that we have different 'tastes' in both personal gifts and anything for their homes.
Anyway, Tec - are you the only one left? Time you were crawling into your nice warm bed. Sleep well.
Diane - are you still there? Glad to know that you will have some time off. Hope your friend comes through the op OK. Take advantage of the time you have to yourself. But for now - GET TO BED!! Get some rest for your back.
Just popping in. I have only read back a couple of pages so don't know what's been going on.
I had a long moan on another thread so won't repeat it here. Just tired as I have been working nights. 62 is too old for working nights but someone has to do it.
It has been so miserable here, not cold but overcast and rain. Some of it has been quite heavy. Many areas of Sydney have had half their average monthly rainfall in two days. So I am not even getting any sunshine.
Berona
Berona Report 3 Dec 2010 10:13
So close to where I am, Colin, yet you are getting more rain than I get. To-day has been dry and hot. Yes, once you hit the sixties, it's time to slow down and take things easy. That doesn't mean taking on night work..
I was glad of the rain on Wednesday morning. ....My dtr rang while I was talking on this thread, to people on the other side of the world, and she said to switch on my TV, as the morning program was being broadcast from a little park across from her daughter's high school. I left my computer and switched on the TV in time to see a lot of the girls (all looking alike in school uniform, of course!) walking behind the presenters and waving to the cameras. I thought I recognised her, then she moved the umbrella and I recognised the pattern of it. I had given it to her.
It felt spooky to think I was standing in my living room, watching my granddaughter as she was walking to school about five miles away - then I thought nothing of going back to talking to my friends overseas. I have seen people I know on TV before, but always 'after' the fact - not while they are actually there.
The wonders of modern science never cease to amaze me!
Brr, it is absolutely freezing here. even though the heating is on, it is so cold in the house. last night the village just three miles from here recorded the lowest temperature in England at minus nineteen degrees.
We had a lovely couple of days, the hotel was very good, it is nice to have a little bit of luxury from time to time.
Going on Wednesday morning was very bad. We woke to even more snow and getting to the main road was problematic. We had to go south for quite a while and the motorway was in a bad way. We then had to go across the M62 which is the highest motorway in the country. It was stop start all the way, though for no obvious reason. Once we got past Manchester, it freed up a bit, but the speed was only about 40mph, (the legal speed is 70mph). It should have taken two hours fifteen minutes, but it actually took us four hours
There was very little snow on the west side of the country, it was just gold. We went shopping in Chester yesterday, it is a very nice place, but would be better in the summer. We did manage to get lots of Christmas shopping done which was good.
Coming back today, it was fine, the roads were all clear so we just went at normal speed. When we got back here, it was so cold, the air temperature was minus seven and that was in the middle of the afternoon.We have had lots more snow since we went away. I had to walk down the untrodden path to get to the door and the snow was well over my ankles
I hope that everyone has been well in my absence
Hello Linda - I'm glad you're back home safe and sound. It sounds like you had a lovely time even though the roads are so bad. I love Chester. When we've been there we've stayed in a very nice B&B with the most beautiful garden. The fellow who runs it cooks the best breakfasts. As you say we all deserve a little luxury at times.
Good Evening Linda,
Seems like you had a nice few days away, glad you made it safely there and back - I can imagine the house would be very cold after being empty for a few days. Chester is a lovely city, I know it very well, we used to shop there every Saturday at one time as we lived only 12 miles away. During the summer months the local artists sell their paintings down by the river Dee. They lean them against the City Walls for people to view.
We had a heavy snowfall this morning, but as I didn't have to go anywhere it was nice to just look at it through the window. It is still perishing cold here.
I hope that Lanto doesn't want to go out too many times tonight Tec
SueMaid Report 3 Dec 2010 20:54
It really is dreadfully cold isn't it? I've had a couple of emails - complete with photos - from relatives. One lot in Guisborough showed their street as I've never seen it.
I remember walking on the bridge over the river Dee. There was a man doing sketches of various views and we bought one. I love the view of the streets from the wall. Actually the last time we went my mother and brother were with us. We couldn't get accomodation for some reason so we went into Wales and stayed in a very nice B&B in Flint. The next day we drove onto Llandudno and then Bangor. It was lovely. My mum told me that when I was little we took a train to Liverpool and went from there to Llandudno in a boat. I have a photo of mum and I on the beach - we're wearing overcoats:-))
Good evening and good morning to all. Hope you are all well.
Linda - sounds like you had a very nice time. It's good to indulge yourself occasionally.
Sue - hope you are continuing to improve. We missed you and worried about you.
Tec - you must be looking out at scenes like we see on postcards. I just hope you don't have to go out in it. Nice to look at - but not so good to feel!
Hello Berona - how's the weather up your way?
Tecwyn Report 3 Dec 2010 21:21
Good to know you are getting better Sue. I remember the boats that used to tie up against the pier at Llandudno - I believe you could once go from there to the Isle of Man at one time, not sure if they still do it.
Linda I am still visiting the garden frequently with Ianto - I just get warm, and it's time to go again - it's a real pain.
Berona, the snow scene is lovely to look at - the mountains look beautiful covered in snow. Yesterday was very clear, as I drove round the bay the mountains of Snowdonia in the background looked spectacular. It reminded me very much of a scene I remember in NZ.
Tec...........9-21pm.
