Looking out at the snow from the warm house is fine, just going out in it is not much fun. Well not these days, when we were young it was a different story of course. Making snowmen and sledging was fun.

We are surviving the Arctic conditions, and staying in as much as possible. Not looking forward to the winds forecast as things get very bleak here when the wind comes off the mountain. Hope you are keeping warm too.

Hello Tec ...... I've been staying in as much as possiable as well , we did the Asda run this morning so have lots of food in the cupboards .
I'm not looking forward to the wind getting up either .

I hope you and the Dutchess are keeping warm .

OH wants to go to bed early,so I shall join him. Nothing naughty you understand, sadly he just wants to keep warm lol.

We haven't had any snow today but it has been minus 6 all day:(

Lol Berona can't see any Brits sunning them selves on the beach at Xmas in my lifetime:)

Tho Tec's been doing it today lol ... bet he had his thermals on, 2 sets I expect :)) It has been a really sunny day here today, but I bet Tec didn't need sunscreen !..it would have frozen on his skin !

Hi Sandie - I was just dreaming about lying on the beach. Haven't been down there for days - the old dog doesn't walk that far anymore, he's struggling with his back legs these days, so it's short gentle walks now.
Did you see on the news that the sea froze on the beach at Llandudno.

Amanda I have to take OHs leg to the clinic tomorrow, but as I did all the shopping today, it will be a quick trip there and back and no hanging about in the cold.

Amanda - saw the photos of Bella. She seems to be thriving really well - and taking notice too.

No, I don't think the seasons will change in our lifetime - but another few generations, perhaps - who knows? I wonder if those countries which never see the sun for six months, have the four seasons like we have?

Tec .... I hope the Duchess's leg gets on ok tomorrow and that you don't have any hair raising moments on you winding roads .

You mentioned " Global Warming " a little while ago , I recall seeing a programme about the subject a few years ago and it did say that the seas around the British Isles would cool and that the sea freezing might become common place ! The name " Global Warming " is somewhat misleading as folk just think it means more heat : ((

Our local pond was frozen over this morning, quite a large pond and not fully frozen, but I was gobsmacked at seeing the pics of Llandudno. Sandie.x

I'm used to the cold now , just have probs with my hands, they go numb even in leather lined gloves with sheepskin mits on top .lol
Don't like cold feet either, but brisk walking keeps them warm:)and thick socks and good shoes:)
Have few very warm coats,so body is always warm when out, the best is a causal waterproof breathable jacket with a detachable fleece lining ( made in Wales lol ) Good make, a bit expensive but well worth the money.

Because I am positively ancient I can remember the harsh winters of the 40s and 50s. Every winter meant a heavy snow fall, with 3ft icicles hanging off the gutters, and avalanches of snow falling off the roofs. The huge lake in the local park froze over every year, and people went skating on it. The difference being that everything kept going, although there wasn't the traffic there is now, and the old steam trains were never affected by snowfall on the lines.
School never closed and we just walked there regardless of the conditions.

I have a really good warm winter coat ( it's a few years old now ....well about 10 actually ) .....unfortunatly I lent it to one of my daughters and don't have the heart to ask for it back ......lol

I miss icicles , I used to be fascinated by them as a kiddie ( in the 60s )

the advent of plastic guttering has a lot to answer for in the respect of losing such wonders .

Last winter our famous " Oulton Broad " froze , it was the first time I had seen such thick ice on it ...... I felt very sorry for the poor ducks .

Yes Amanda, I'm Old Father Tyme and have been around since the Romans were here lol.

The house we lived in had an outside loo - that froze every year, so we had to keep a bucket of water in there. That was the same loo that I was blown off you may remember.
When the cold water tap froze in the kitchen sink my mother would send me out for a bucket of snow to melt on the gas so that we could have a wash - the good old days lol.

I've just dug out photos of 1982 when we had snow covering the top of our driveway gates,and drifts covering both our front and back doors.. hubby had to climb out of the bedroom window (bungalow), we had to go to work cos we lived within 2 miles and were walking level with the tops of cars!

1962 was another baddy when I lived in a little village with parents, no traffic moved for weeks, that was a fun yr for us kids :)

One of my other warmest coats is one I bought from Tesco (Florence and Fred range ) a few yrs ago at a discount price, rather posh looking , faux suede and fur in brown, back in fashion this yr .lol.. it's warm as toast , I wear it when it's dry but cold:)....Sandie.x

I haven't heard the story of being blown off the toilet Tec but the thought of it is somewhat alarming ! ......lol
The " good old days " are what make you the tough man that you are now I believe . I dread to think how the kids of today would cope with hardship , like being cold etc ......my lot think I'm harsh because I have never gone in for heating the upstairs of the house but that's how it was when I was a kid and I think that heating all the rooms in a house is just far to extravagant ...... I enjoy the dash into bed when the room is blooming cold ......lol
I'm off to bed now to do the dash ..........keep warm everyone : )
