Hi TW, you said that the DVD-RW is read only. Is this a blank disc or one that already has data on it? If the later it probably been write protected to prevent it being written over.

Shurrup Hayley.

Sue, the problem is, his graphics card has popped, so his PC won't start up. I know it's the graphics because of the alarm beeps, (well I hope its that and not the motherboard). So he bought a new one. I need the driver to get it going when I put it in, so if I sent him the driver he wouldn't be able to pick it up anyway LOL.

Ok now it's telling me the disk is read only (the CD-RW) and cannot be recorded to.

Err.....there must be a way of changing it surely?

Is the laptop and desktop networked? If it is then when OH comes home he can just access your C drive and copy the file over.

Stevie....you could have it there..they are DVD+RW. That's all there was LOL

Mind you, I've just tried a CD-RW too, and that won't format.

Sue, no not got a memory stick.

don't know the answer but if i put a RW disc into my recorder i have to format it, if i use a write only disc i don't, on the recorder i have to go to open the disc management tab, there it allows you to fomat the disc.

Hi TW, are your DVD rewritable discs DVD-RW or DVD+RW?

I have Vista on my lappy & instructions I have are to use DVD-RW discs.

nope not working. It's telling me it's a read only disk, when it's a RW.

so something isn't right is it lol

I had this problem with a pack of CD RW I bought last year...they wouldn't write either.

I'll try that Sue.

Problem is, OH has just gone an bought a new video card for his PC, but it's not for Vista, so I'm trying to download the vista driver for it. I've got it saved on here so I'll try drag n drop.

Sue

Sue Report 5 May 2009 12:30

Err why does it need to format the disc?

If you save the file to your C drive then drag and drop to burn that should work.

I need help.

I am trying to download a file to a DVD R/W. I have done it before on this laptop, but not for a while.

Now it won't let me. I starts to prepare to format the disk, then tells me it is write protected!

What's wrong? And is there anything I can do about it?

Yes it is a CD/DVD Rw drive, and I'm on Vista.
