there is nothing like being at sea on a warship at night - no upper deck lights other than navigation so no light polution...There are hundreds of stars visible in the sky and in the South China Sea the water glows a shade of green with the millions of tiny luminous sea creatures -so peaceful and beautiful

After saying that I took mutts for a walk on the beach a few weeks ago and saw an egret ...fantastic all proud and wonderful, 1st I have ever seen.
I took them a week later and found an egret all dead and sad. so Bl@@dy annoyed with the fisherman over it.

This is actually making me cry ,AND I'DON"T KNOW WHY.I think maybe a bit of both Uzzi.I'm a soppy old date.Sniff!!Maybe it is because I have no family left down there now (Plymouth) so it just leaves me with memories of a very happy time .

I was born and bred in a village next to the sea. It holds special memories for me whenever I go back home. The storms I have seen have been exhilariting and wild the calmness like a silk sheet to relax in.
and the smell is mind blowing.

Always respected it but never feared it

Jane Report 24 Apr 2009 19:31

Uzzi ,I hear seagulls sometime ,but they come from the land fill site a few miles away. They don't sound the same as seaside gulls LOL

For you the sea is happy memories of past times , most are hols you lived there. Do you want to go back for the memories or for the shoreline ?

Awww`Helen sorry to hear you miss it but maybe 1 day. I thought I was the only person that smiled at the damn noise of those pesky birds lol.
Don't hear them here much but I still smile when I do.

Sally as the granddaughter of a coastguard I can only imagine the respect you have had told you.
What stories you must have had, do you know about the houses with the widows walk and the stories about the candles burning.
But still you enjoy it.
I understand your need to be inland but will hope that you get back to the coast where I think you wish to be.

Jane

Jane Report 24 Apr 2009 19:21

I REALLY REALLY miss the sea.I grew up a few minutes walk from the beach and spent many of my childhood years down there.I loved it in the summer ,but also loved the big waves in winter storms. The smell and taste of the air .The seagulls crying, and scrabbling around in the rock pools not realising that the tide was coming in,and having to run .
I now live in the middle of the country and I think a good 2 to 2and half hours from the sea.
I am going to have a week in Suffolk in June and the cottage is just off the beach,so am really looking forward to that.

Jax the strongest swimmer would lose against a storm, but at least you can stay afloat, easier to do if you are not frightened of water.

I don't come from the coast so my fasination with the sea is weird ( no comments).
The thread came about cos I didn't realise how different people might view that expanse of water.

Sally Report 24 Apr 2009 19:12

Yes Uzzi, and like my Dad who was brought up by the sea, would love to live near it again.......my Mum and Dad and Sister and BiL got their wish......but we are inland and don't want to move away from our children and grandchildren.....

My Grandad, the Coastguard and sailor, and sailor Uncles always had a deep respect of the sea.......and my Dad said that as boys they were always told to respect the sea and its dangers.......I love the sea in bad weather, and foolishly perhaps, enjoyed a particularly awful channel crossing in winter where the ferry was at 35 degrees to the horizon....lol....
