No Susan, I saw all the series, She is a remarkable lady , ipresume she is still alive..... I wlll get one of the books from the library I also remember a t.v. series called The Village,I think its still running, I live in a very busy built up area, and we try and get into the countryside as often as we can, I would love to have lived in a village.......

Jean,

Have you read Daughter of the Dales (Hannah Hauxwell) , real life in the yorkshire dales, and very isolated. A heartwarming story. There is also a follow up .

I also have read quite a few of the Miss Read series.
As I went to a village school i found it to be really nostalgic and very true to real life in that era.

Angelsong, I too find it's like a soap - and wonderful! They had 'gossips' and personal problems in those days too.
However, what makes it better than the 'modern' soaps is no foul language, a slower pace of life, and (so far) little violence.

I have read 'Lark rise to Candleford' - read the trilogy one miserable bank holiday - didn't move from the sofa. It's a fantastic story, but I'm quite happy with the TV series.

Heartbeat' was based on a book, but had the advantage of the author still being alive, but still, even that wavered from the original books.

As for people disliking some of the characters in 'Lark rise' - well that's life isn't it?

Thanks Moonglow, this very interesting, I didnt expect the book to be the same as the series, but am fascinated with the background and the area...

All the info is good too....

Glad I am not the only one who has trouble hearing Dorcas,

But i love it !!!!!

Totally agree Angelsong, I also have read the book some years ago. Quite a few programmes do this, and just use the name of the book and author to get the interest, and then portray something very different . An example of this was Dalziel and Pascoe by Reg Hill.

Its disappointing as the book itself was a brilliant depiction of life in those times and the politics, but has turned out to be nothing but about the love lives of these people.
Flora Thompson would probably turn in her grave if she could watch it.!!

Lets hope Dorcas reads the boards .lol.I missed The Cranford series, so got the dvd, they all spoke clearly.I wonder if there are going to do any more,
Lauras mum is in it, and one or two others, I also got the book Larkrise to Candleford by Flora Thompson its three tales on one book, I have only glanced at it ( I am saving it to take on my hols ) its more a story about the author, sounds interesting.....

I'm wondering if they'll try and find enough stories for another series as apparently there roughly 6 million people watch it which is alot nowadays.
I hope they do, as its the sort of easy Sunday evening viewing I like

I Love this programme but I actually didn't enjoy last nights, as I'm not keen on Pearl and Ruby. I wish Dorcas would get together with James. If she dosen't want him I'll have him!!

I thought it was just me with the volume! )))) I find quite a few films nowadays that it's impossible to hear the dialogue, but then get thundered out of the chair when the music/background noises come on.

I dislike Laura's mum - she looks more like her older sister than her mum, and her dad reminds me of someone who doesnt want to be there (i.e. eeking a living out of sone masonry with a house full of mouths to feed)!!!

I think Millie and Ruby are both excellent though.

I saw some out-takes a few weeks back from the recording of the programme, and it looks hilarious in the making - probably because some of the dialogue is too "prissy" for words.

I love it too.
We have the *hearing* problem with many programmes.
There seems to be too much whispering and sighing on the telly.
Last night was the first one where I found myself disliking someone with a vengeance.
Be honest.... and i am a very tolerant person... who in their right mind would want to pinch that policeman from his wife.
You would just feel so much sympathy for the poor woman... or am I being mean?

Does Thomas the postman remind anyone else of Roy from Coronation Street? There is something about his exacting nature and his sense of right and wrong that always gets me thinking of Roy Cropper!

Oh I could shake Dorcas. She is so prissy.

I absolutely love Laura's mum and dad.

Oh yes and my favourite people are Twister and the Postman and I cannot for the life of me remember his name but he does make me laugh

I love this series, but the whispering of Dorcas is doing my head in, there are times when we cant hear a word she says!! we turn up the volume and then have to lower it when others speak, Its so frustrating and spoils our viewing, does any one else have this problem?
