Liz Hi
That is what we use to say she has a fur coat to show off with but has no knickers because she spent all her money on the fur coat to show off.left nothing for her knickers

Hi to eveyone else
. Liz the wedding will be on and gone in no time we all get worked up about these things but they go bye and we wonder why we worried about it all.
My husband use to say to me Rita if you had nothing to worry about you would search till you found something to worry about. I think he was right.?

Jean I hope your managing all right ?.I know what you mean about not sleeping when you have things on your mind you cannot seem to switch off I am like that. I had to take a sleeping pill last night as I was still awake at 4 o'clock.

I am so late with my breakfast this morning. I am going to have some now.
see you later

Hi Ya All!,

'Champagne lifestyle on a beer income' is one expression that comes to mind. Do you think that suits?

(_)?. The coffee was great. That's me set up for the day ahead. No toast today for me. Don't want to spoil my 'six pack'!!!!!!What an imagination I have.

Was at a family wedding a couple of months ago. As usual all the stress on the run up was manifested by both sides. But on the day it went great. Kilts swinging and the Castle walls echoing to the loud 'hoochs' and 'hollers', the day passed too quickly. It was a pleasant change to all the funerals Iv'e been at recently.

I hope the wedding goes well. Remember, if you are wearing a FURCOAT put the other parts on as well....just in case you slip on the dance floor!!!!!

Have a good day ya all!

Sorry Mo, missed you writing the red hat bit too lol

Also forgot to say hello to Stephen, apologies to you.

Marilyn, wedding is 28th August so we leave Norwich on 27th, and back on 29th but of course the Monday 30th is Bank Holiday and it's o.h.'s father's birthday so he will be going out for the day with the family, probably too early for me to go with him as they have decided to meet at the coast. With my chronic fatigue syndrome, I have to watch I don't push myself too much and with all the preparation and such for the wedding and me probably having to do some of the driving, I am going to need a bit of a rest afterwards.
Will you be back in Norfolk later on or will you be jaunting off to the sun in the autumn? You will have to let me know.

Pauline, I didn't think quite such naughty thoughts re the saying fur coat...
I just thought someone had spent her money on a fur coat to show off but not left any spare cash for drawers lol See how innocent I am? pmsl

My tan is developing well and the longer I leave it before going to bed the better it will stay on I think. I was really nervous having it done in case it went a funny colour but it looks ok altho it's electric light so may look different in day light lol I was also nervous driving home and hoped I would have no reason to get out of the car enroute, as I couldn't wear a bra and didn't look my most elegant in this old dress lol

Got home and dashed inside quickly tho so was ok, didn't frighten anyone!

I did wonder whether to have a purple rinse instead of my usual blonde lol but decided it was taking colour co-ordination a little bit too far lol
have to go out later today and get a nice new bra and a pair of harvest festivals as well as try to find a black patent or shiny plastic bag and the fabric to make the stole from the scarf, decided to do that as no one liked the pashmina I had. I was talking to an assistant in Boots last week about eyeshadows as I don't usually wear much these days but thought I would make the effort and she said if I go in today later on - they are open till 8 or 9 I think - she will do my makeup for me and show me the best way to use the colours Because I have a bit of redness in some areas on my cheeks and chin she squeezed some green corrective cream into a little pot for me to use under foundation, in case I didn't go back today. I thought that was nice of her so am going to try and fit it in, but my English friend who is over from Germany wants me to go round to where she is staying too. She goes back soon and we haven't managed to spend any time together whereas most years we meet up several times. Her hubby, who is German, comes over on Saturday for a week and they go back on the day of the wedding. He co drove over with her in July as the journey is too much for her on her own now, she is 51, and then stayed for a few days and flew home and he will fly back so they drive home together. Maybe one year I will go back with them and stay at their home for a while, she has been asking me to go for years now and never done it. They live in Hannover and we have been friends since 1975.

Off to watch some more tv, I recorded Place in the Sun as I love seeing the different areas people chose to move to.

take care

You spoil those kids Marilyn, but why not? They're your grandchildren! Hope you enjoy your stay with them. Don't forget to post when you get the chance though, we can't have you going missing.

Liz, you're going to look all posh at that wedding with your lovely tan and freshly tinted hair. Hope you aren't going to do your hair purple to go with the dress.

Rita, when we say 'fur coat and no knickers'............what we mean is that she got the fur coat by wearing no knickers.

Mo, your granddaughter is doing the right thing, any kind of job with children will add to her experience and help her get the job she wants. You'd think the government would be pleased to help young people who want to go out and work.

Hope your son is OK Shelly, sounds like he's doing just fine though.

Wish I'd known you were doing the ironing Linda, I'd have shoved mine through the cyber hatch. Think I'll push them through while you're asleep and you can start on them first thing in the morning.

Hope everything is OK Elizabeth.

Jean, can't you sleep? You need to have more rest so you can keep your strength up. You'll be up making coffee for everyone in a few hours and I haven't gone to bed yet.

Just as well I wasn't hungry this morning, considering Stephen ate all the toast. No wonder your wife puts locks on the cupboards Stephen. Never mind, I'm a dab hand at picking locks - so just give me a shout if you can't get into any of the cupboards.

~~~~~~~~~~ to Yvonne, don't think she turned up today.
Hi All,
Glad to see you back Mo.....nearly got the search party out for you.
Liz I don't think we will be able to get this coffee meeting , I will be coming back home day after Bank holiday,
I'm off in the morning to Norwich and your wedding is the saturday before the bank holiday ...is that right ? I'll be leaving Norwich on the 31st August
Oh well never mind bad timing if it is ......can you confirm it .
Just finished packing but lappy with me all the time ....so I will be popping in & out .
The other grand kids are jumping with excitement wonder why ???
I know why Toys R Us are our first visit......something we started a few years ago and cant stop.....LOL
Hi Rita,
I know that saying too lol
There is also one about Red hat, no drawers - I learned that one from Norwich Market boys when I once crocheted myself a nice red hat lol
What if I had worn a fur coat and the red hat, that would have confirmed it eh?
Had my spray tan earlier and am sitting here in an old dress and not much else while it all settles, looks good and might go a little darker so I have to see how it will be by Saturday, I have booked another for next Weds but if I am too pale again by this Saturday (shouldn't be) then I will get the next one done on the Thursday before the wedding instead. It was a pain finding the place but she is a nice person, been doing them since April so knows what she is doing and only charges £9, I thought £8 but had misread the ad, as I found when I checked it for the address. I had torn it out of the newspaper so it was in my purse.
Made o.h. cough up for it lol and he can pay for the next one too
Hope our Jean's day went ok and that everyone is on top of things, back later.
Mo in Kent Report 18 Aug 2010 19:00
Ello, Ello, I'm here, better late than never.
Rita what about the saying "Red Hat No Drawers". oooh soooo naughty.
Excuse me Stephen for lowering the tone. But I bet you have heard a lot worse.
I am late because, at eight thirty this morning, the phone went and a little voice at the other end said, " nannnn I am bored, I have been up since five this morning, are you going out, can I come down" LOL. So my grandaughter was here since early this morning. This is the 18 year old, who has just finished college, and starts her job next month.
She's such a lovely girl, and has got a job working in a childrens nursery.
She wants to be a teaching assistant, but cannot do so, until such time as she has got experience. What are youngsters supposed to do, to get experience, if they are not offered the type of work that they really want to do. So this job came up, and as she says, at least she will have had done
work with children, so that should give her a boost up on the job ladder.
She applied for job seekers allowance weeks ago, and so far she has not received any. It seems so unfair on some of the younger generation, who actually want to work, and can't find work.
I hope everyone is o.k, especially all our friends who are suffering from different problems at the moment.
we use to have a saying in my younger days" Fur coats and no knickers."
meaning someone was trying to think they were posh or better than others but it was the knickers that gave it away they could not afford both. Lol
Hi Marilyn and Shelly
some one speaks posh O la de da.
I went to see the old lady who fell down near me the one who we got into hospital she came home the next day. she is 86 I was not sure of her age. I said how do you feel now and what happened it appears she fell down and managed to pull the pull cord alarm system the voice on the other end asked her what she wanted she said she could recall saying her name and flat number and asked could they please tell her how to get home then she blacked out. she said I did not know where I was. That was when we called the ambulance They gave her scan on the brain and all tests to see if she had a mini stroke but she passed all that.
what I wanted to know and I will ask the Estate Manager tomorrow why did the Call system not follow her call up. someone must have wondered what had happened she said she was so embarased . I asked her would you like me to do your shopping tomorrow ?.she said she has a lot for a whole week and I could not carry it.. so I said I will get the shopping and ask a friend to come and get me in her car and bring me back home with her shopping. but she said she will ask Barbara herself so I have to ask Barbara to go and see her.
It is bad when you need food and have no help. I am so lucky I have friends who offer as soon as they know I am unwell.
I had dinner and sat and ate a whole Mars Bar I brought it when I went shopping this morning. now I wished I had not as I feel sick.
I hope everyone is having a great Day not got caught in the rain we have not got any at the moment.but some places nearby have,
Rita.
Morning Elizabeth Have a good rest before you come back on the boardS.
Marilyn yes I know what you are saying is true many people with money get the same winter allowance as everyone else when they reach a certain age. I wonder whether they are taxed on it ? as they have so much money surely they must have to pay a tax on it. ? I dont know whether it is tax free or not. I would like to know.
I have just finished washing my winter dressing gown I have a towelling one quiet heavy so dont use it during the summer but do during the winter so I give it a go in the machine ready for the cold weather. Lol
That letter to the Passport office made me laugh so much I thought it was a real laughter maker.
It has started to over cast here I had hoped I would get out without having to go in the rain as I need milk and bread.
see you later.
Morning All,
Rita the only thing about the fuel allowance, is I wish it was means tested, but they say it would cost too much that way.
The reason why I say that is my dad & his wife does not need it as they don't have their heating on much only in one room that they sit in, and then they are scrooge in putting it on in any of the bedrooms !!
They would rather suffer than put heat on, so I say this .....they spend their fuel allowance it on holidays !!
Its makes my blood boil money wasted and abused, Yes give it to the real needy folk and there are plenty of them .
They have 6 pensions between them coming in to their house .
Dont start me offfffffffffffff..........toooooo early ...LOL
Now Good Morning to you All,.....
Hi to Jean,Stephen, Linda & Rita.
Going to do some ironing after me bath.....lovely !!
Morning All
It is a lovely day here sun is shinning and I feel happy I always do when I wake to the sun shinning through my window.
Stephen I think Shelly went to your cupboard she was edged on by that Marilyn they wanted to see if you had any chocolate biscuits, tought on them.
Myself I like plane ones or Scot Shortbreads or jammie rings.
I have been reading Liz thread on the weather allowance it a muses me how people think it is part of their pension when it was infact given to help elderly people with their cold weather payments during the bad wnters .so those who move abroad think they should get it as well. it makes no sense to me. why they think that.? they say they paid in to it. when infact it was started as a social arrangment. still I am not getting into that.
Hope your feeling Ok today Jean have a shower and a strong cup of tea.
I am going to have my second cup now I am very thristy this morning.
Morning Jean, Stephen and all other later comers
Looks OK here this morning. Might get some washing done if I get the chance.
I love the sound of where you live Stephen, but as I said I have bad memories of the weather. It is a real shame that so many homes are now only used for holidays and therefore prices have been pushed so high. The only consolation is that even when there is little local work the houses are being kept in good order and at least used.
I live on the edge of a large village, probably a town really, we have a few shops enough to get basics and near to several big towns. The estate I live on is quite small on the edge of a lake and woods. Nice walks locally. We only have a small garden but get by and it doesn't take too long to tidy up.
Oh well have a good day everyone.
Little here today and tomorrow
Linda :o) XxX
