Fiona aka Ruby,
I have to agree with that. My grandchildren are very good and always grateful for what they get but I have encountered mega tantrums with some who had better remain nameless.

Well thats me for tonight, got to be up early so goodnight to everyone,

I shall probably be thrown off the site for saying this, but ***lowers voice conspiratorially*** if you keep young children away from commercial television channels, they are still satisfied with the less expensive Christmas gift.

I was rather confused, and it doesn't take a lot these days. Anyway I dont do window shopping.

Stephen, I really wish people would remember what the true meaning of Christmas is, and not what it has become.......a big money spinning venture for big businesses. And yes I know it's what we have done, but it's getting out of hand now.
Children are not satisfied with a small token gift,as we were as children.
It has to cost big bucks, for them to appreciate it.

Stephen you've lost me there

Will get some in for when you all arrive ok

Cath xx (just disappearing to watch the end of you know what)

Stephen2009 Report 12 Dec 2010 21:11

FACT.

A friend overheard two women talking while window shopping,

'Yes!' say one 'I really like Christmas.....but I can't stand all the Religious nonsense'.

Cath could hardly believe what she had just heard.

Is it a good book, if it is I will have to look out for it in my local book shop.

Hi Pat what are you reading, anything good.?

PatriciaAnn

PatriciaAnn Report 12 Dec 2010 21:00

I think Christmas should be celebrated every two years!
Talking of cider i tell you what is nice. That's pear cider!
I was doing my cards but i got fed up with it. I went back to reading my book!

Ahhh gee thanks Stephen,I had read Caths post wrong, then thought I was going ga ga. Lol Now now don't be nasty to poor ol Mo, I know it's my age. And yes everything is Christmas orientated.....I just wish it was over and a done with now, Bah humbug, ol Scrooge thats me.
Sorry to hear it's turned so cold again, lets hope that the snow stays away,as much as I know you enjoy it, it's not much joy, when food deliveries are delayed.

Now come on Jean, don't kid me that you are putting the toys away, it's nanna's time to play with them now. lol
I love the baby's name, Scarlett is such a pretty name for a little girl.
My new grandchild is now going to be called Lily, instead of Bella when she is born. Well she is at the moment, but she's not due till January the 20th, so it could all change again I suppose.
Enjoy your cup of tea, and sit and relax for a while.

Maddie, I live my life at a tangent, never knowing if I am coming or going, or if I am up or down, a real topsy turvy life.
Don't worry i'll keep taking the tablets.
I am pleased you were able to stay cool calm and collected, with awkward customers today. Why is it, that they are always right, and the poor salesperson has to bow and scrape knowing they are right, and the cusomer is wrong. I had to bite my tongue many a time, when I was at work.
Never mind, it will soon be over love, keep your chin up.
Oh, and wash that coal of your face you dirty gal.

Stephen2009 Report 12 Dec 2010 20:50

Maddie,

It's great when all the decorations are up and it's time to sit down and enjoy them. I always feel the place looks so bare when they all come down in January.

A wee village not far from me has a few houses that really put in a great effort with outside lights.......folk come from miles to see them....magic !

I keep threatening Mrs Stephen that I am going to do a 'Light Show' outside......she says she'd leave me if I did that.

The Lights are going up next week . ROFL

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah Stephen, you are fishing for sympathy. AGAIN. lol

Just an expression dear heart, I feel like I have been down the mines.

No i have never tasted Scrumpy either. I am FAR too refined to guzzle that stuff. A nice drop of Irn Bru will suffice. Same colour.

Just sitting here with my decorations up. Kevin put them up while I was out. I was out a bit longer than him, but we managed the last of them before dinner.

The tree lights are winking at me. I have candles flickering, and the holly wreaths are in place. I can relax a bit now.

Will be going to Golders Green next Saturday, to take flowers to Parents and Inlaws. Then I can feel calm over Christmas knowing that the vases are filled with blooms. The small Chapel is wonderful. There is music playing quietly, and the whole of the walls are covered in flowers and pot plants. The smell is overpowering, but very comforting.

We never managed our trip to Floida.

WE COULD GO TO GUERNSEY.

Stephen2009 Report 12 Dec 2010 20:30

Maddie.....Coal face ! Are you a Miner ?

Switched my 5 Watt Christmas light on......WOW is that bright ! The electricity meter has started to blink now.....once every 2 hours....must be costing a small fortune to run this bulb.

Despite spending a fair bit of time in 'Scrumpy Country' I never ever tasted Scrumpy. I did hear some weird tales about it's effect on your mind and body.

It's well below freezing here again.......some areas are really dangerous to moving about either by foot or car.. Shops are still not getting deliveries of some goods. Happy days !

It's good to see some folk on the Thread.....I was very lonely earlier.

Rita......Hope you get better soon, you must feel miserable.

Mommy....Glad you were confused by Caths 'tree' as well. I had to read it twice.before my brain clicked in......It's that time of year....we see 'tree' we think Christmas Tree.

Hi all, have just had to read through 6 pages from when I was last on here, didn't realise it was so many days ago.
Hello Cath, welcome, the people on here are very friendly and nice.
Have had Scarlett, my grandaughter for the weekend, she is mobile now, and very quick, am exhausted now, just having a cup of tea.
Hope everyone has had a great weekend, and are all keeping warm.
Just ging to put away the toys, and try to bring some order back into my home.
Take care and stay safe.

Good evening Ladies and Gents.

Home from the coal face. lol

Cor blimey, what a load of restless people we had in today. Anyone would think we were gonna be shut for the duration. Very frayed nerves too. But I kept my cool, and was utterly charming. pmsl

Sorry you are not feeling too good Rita. Take good care of yourself, and blame Shelly. She started it.

Mommy, do you usually go off on a tangent. Dont go too far adrift, you will end up looking like Ann Widdicombe, she walks over to one side, she has a list.

We have ancestors from Guernsey and Ireland too. So I am a bit stumped as to how to track them down. As they are not really relevant at present, I will give them a wide berth.

Cath dont go too giddy for the cider, it will rot your teeth. Scrumpy has everything but the kitchen sink added to it. woe betide any stray moggy that wanders too near. lol

Hope everyone is well and warm.

Tara a bit.

Hi there Cath.
I was a bit confused just for a minute, when you said you worked on your tree for half an hour, stupid me, I thought you meant your Christmas tree. Cor, this time of year drives me mad, every time I close my eyes, I think what else have I got to buy,or do, no wonder I went of at a tangent.
Like you, I have had to give up on my Irish side of the family, I have no idea where they originated from.
All these births at sea cause no end of problems.
