Hello everyone Thank you so much for all your kind birthday wishes. It is a quiet day so far, a few phone calls, many messages here and on Facebook and lots of cards in the post. I am going out for a meal with my children and their better halves this evening. Hubby is not well today and has a flu like feeling. We went to a concert last night, Genesis copy group ................ really goood but he wasn't well there. Off work today !!! Men seem to get much sicke with things than us ladies. (Sorry Stephen and Dermot). The group were really good, went with my BIL and SIL and nephew. Home around midnight. My friend came round with the new baby to give me a birthday card !!! He is less than 3 days old, he looks gorgeous and will be spoilt by his older brother and 2 sisters.
The sun is shining. So enjoy the afternoon everyone
Linda :o) XxX

The Island of Barra didnt seem like that most people we saw lived on the island and lived off the shore and sea diving from shell fish and kept chickens. lambs cows things like that. most of he young people did leave barra and work across the mainland and many came back when they could get work. It is not a place for young people as there is not much for them to do. but they still had little dances and had a band and held meets in their little hall. It would not be a place for me. but for those who grew up there must be a paradise except during the winter months. which we know are very hard. but why must a goverment step in to change the lives of these proud people when they are doing no harm to anyone. They hold sailing compitions and keep their lives busy.
I saw a political debate on TV a few nights ago infact I stayed up till 12 o clock as I found it so interesting and the leader of Scotland parliment spoke out and I agreed with most of what he said. . he did tell the English people to stand fast about the NHS and said if Scotland and Wales can have free perscriptions why couldnt the English have them as well. at that time I wished I lived in Scotland. Lol I dont pay for my perscription.

Morming everyone, I hope I'm not too late for brekkie. Happy birthday Linda!
Stephen the fact about the battle of Culloden I remembered reading in one of the books I read within the last 6 months. Like you said that is one of the benefits of reading. You learn something!
I've got to go shopping but only to buy food!

Rita,
You would need to visit the Hebrides and other Islands to fully realise the way of life the people have. It is like another world in many ways. The beauty is outstanding and the people so nice.
The other side to that is that there are many social problems caused by the remoteness and cost of living. Young people have to leave the Islands to secure employment and University and College Education. Many never return.
Alcoholism and depression are major problems. Suicide rates are high.
Affordable housing is in short supply. Houses being bought up and used as Holiday Homes drive prices sky high. Locals cannot afford to buy them.
Yes ! Paradise.......but at a cost.

It was the last in the series of Barra last night they gave a party for father John Paul he had been there a year as their priest. although born there.
The senery last night was really lovely. The cloud to all this is they are trying to make it into a consevation place, which will mean all the people on the isle will loose their livelyhood and they are a true community and already conserve the fish and take only what is neccesary to live on. the post office is the smallest in the country. they make their living on fishing and holiday makers mostly . I pray that the goverment will change their minds and let these poeple carry on with their way of life peaceful.

Looking good outside just now.
Sad day today. I'm going shopping with Mrs Stephen.
I'm sure it wont be too sore but I'm a coward and can't get up the courage to face it. Perhaps a couple of Calm Me Down Pills will help ROFL
On this day 16th April 1746 the last major battle was fought on British soil. Prince Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) and his Jacobite Army were slaughtered by 'Butcher Cumberland' on Culloden Moor, Inverness-shire. That the Royalist Army consisted of mainly Scots added insult to the injury. It brought to an end the claim of Prince Charles to be the rightful King and began the Highland Clearances when people were burned out of their houses and forced to flee abroad. The people were replaced by sheep.
Here endeth the History lesson.
Have a good day ya all.
I will return. (If I survive the shopping)
