Rita Report 8 Aug 2011 17:01

Thank you Pat. I looked at the wills and tree I have of my Great Grandmother tree and they all say Sheldon on that. I know they do spell names often differently but all my documentation say SHELDON The tree I have dates back to 1626. from the Society of Friends East division of Devon of Quakers.and the name is then Ackland it is after this the named changed to Acland and then reverted back the first Acklands are buried in a private garveyard called Spicelands this is the oringal copy of the Quakers society.they were living at Hemyock from about 1600 then my Gt Gt GT GT Grandfather married and she was born in Sheldon . one of the death certificates dated 11th April 1785 was an Elizabeth Ackland
I have pages and pages of The Ackland family.
I often get an email from the Archivist in Devon asking me if this Lee or that Ackland is part of my family tree. she gets letters and emails from around the world with people looking for this information.
That was how I got so much information on my Great Grandmothers Uncle who was a twin and they emigrated to Australia and I have a copy of his will and details of land that was given to him when he moved out there. the family are very vast.

Hi Rita.

Well its seems to be the same place as your ancestors.

Take a look at this web site...

GENUKI/Devon: Shaldon - Genealogy

Dont forget spellings were altered by folk on documents the dialect plays a great part in different spellings.

Hmm interesting...

Just having a break from holding the ladder ..LOL

The papers I have Marilyn are named Sheldon it is mainly my Great Grandmothers family named ACKLAND in 1836 there are brothers and sisters who came from Dunkwell. and Sidmouth many emigrated to Geelong in Victoria Austrailia. I have the compltete offical tree they came from Quakers also lived in Uffculme .Hemyock and Kentishbear. but it is certainly Sheldon Devon there was a book published " A Devon Family."
The story of the Acklands. written by Lady Anne Acland that was they way they spelt the name then. I have a signed copy.
My Great Grandmother Elza Ackland was born in Ottery St Mary in Devon.

Hi All,

Had a great day yesterday .....it did rain quite a bit but only after we had our walk .
Rita... as Pat said its (Shaldon the correct spelling), as long as I've known it, maybe at one time slightly difference as names do change over many years.
It has a Church named St Nicholas and opposite was once the busy Port of Teignmouth, would this be the same place as your ancestors ?

Thank you Jean for the breakfast ....so glad to see you pop in.
still praying for you.0000000000

Good morning all,
I kept getting the error message yesterday and couldn't get on here all day. :-S :-S
Lovely and sunny down this way but quite windy.
Rita I do hope your family's luck changes soon. You have certainly had more than your share of worry.
Had a nice relaxing weekend, read a lot, did a bit in the garden and re-potted my orchid. OH did roast lamb for dinner last night, mmmm delicious.
Going to buy some black shoes this morning as we have a couple of evenings out coming up and my only good pair are looking a bit shabby.
Hope you all are well and have a nice day :-D

Rita - I suspect the bulk of the population is no worse or better than before. It's just that some continue to resent civilisation.

Rita Report 7 Aug 2011 20:57

Marilyn is that Sheldon or Shalden you are going too,. my ancestors came from Sheldon in Devon.

I think that must be a repeat Pat as I saw that sometime ago
your have to excue mistakes I am making with the spelling but tyhe lettering is going on this key board it is just about eigth months old and the lastest microsoft one. so I am hitting letters I should not by mistake .

I shall be having an early night to night, so will say goodnight now sleep tight.

Oh Rita it just goes to show accidents at home can easily happen. :-0
I hope Mike is ok <3 Life goes like that sometimes. Something happening to everyone all at the same time.
I've just watched Joanna Lumley going down the Nile. A fascinating programme. She's following the River Nile from the sea to its source. It's about 4,000 miles.

This trouble in Tottenham is caused by youths black and white they wanted to cause trouble to allow the police to get the blame. the CCTV camera will show black / white youths throwing great big rocks at the police and threatening them with bars this allowed the others to loot where ever they could, I hope the little so and so get a stiff sentence for all the damaged they have caused to pople homes, cars and shops the judges are too lienient on them.
during the war they would have been shot for looting.they carry these weapons about with them saying it is for potection if they didnt carry them about they would'nt need to potect themselves., have they never herd of fists.

it sickens me with they way these gangas are running riots.

I have been busy today so have not been on this site., talk about troubles My daughter phoned to saym she had to take her husband (steve to Hillingdon Hospital ) he was cleaning the carpet and slipped on a bit of water on the kitchen floor. my daughter was up stairs in her office, he called out to her for help. she found him laying there blood everywhere he sliped and caught his arm on a wire veg rack. there was blood everywhere. she put a towel over his arm and took him straigh to the hospital they were seen to right away he had to have six stitches in his arm, and given antibiotics. she had phoned her son to tell him about the kitchen and not to worry about it she had to get to the hosptial quickly so didn have time to clean the floor. It worries me he had that big cancer operation a year ago and is still very weak he wanted to help my daughter out.
Then my granddaughter arrived at her mothers house with the children little Ryan was on crutches he had torn a ligiment he was crying he didnt like the cruitches byut his nan explained to him he would get better quicker if he used them to walk about. His Mum has to have her CT scan on Tuesday.
Then my other son Mike emailed me to say his consultant was worried as one of his stitches from the removal of his kidney would not heal he had that done in february so he is seeing someone in the week his daughter hurt her back and was in alot of pain so he phoned for the paramedics the one that arrived reconised Mike (being a parmadic hisself ) they took her to hospital onto a back board and a neck collar fior an xray incase she had more damaged she didn and was allowed home a few hours afterwards they gave her strong pain killers. so you see it is still happening we have a curse on us as a family,.

Afternoon all

It's very quiet on here today, where have you all gone?

This week I had 2 people contact me through Ancestry about my Lingham family, one in Australia and one from NZ, so I'm hoping for some exchange of info.
