Best book I have ever read - if you like history - is: "This thing of darkness" by Harry Thompson. His only novel. Relates the story of Charles Darwin and Robert FitzRoy. A brilliant read! Based on fact, too...

It is about a childs experience mainly with social services and the "system" in the 70's 80's, which I could relate to, not normally my sort of book, I'm into John Grisham, but this one got me hooked.
