I love local authors who set their scenes in local areas ~ since I've been working in Wednesbury I have fallen for Meg Hutchingson, but also love Annie Murray as she did a couple on Midland boat people which has helped my research no end

"The Temporal Void" by Peter Hamilton.

The Boy In the striped pyjamas is emotive written really for teenagers but shuould be read by adults
a short novel 200 plus pages .
will make you cry (reccomended)

not read any overly good ones, mostly ones related to work will make new years resolution to read more books not work related ones anyway

Trying to think of the John Grisham book I read in the summer, it was his first non-fiction book, and the lawyer who represented OJ Simpson in his first trial and also Louise Woodward, that was fantastic.
