Ann, I have seen this thread and not added before.

I feel for you and you niece, so tragic. But, as a mum know that we have all done the same thing. I know my daughter does with grandson, so told her this story and she has said she thought about this a couple of times when she went back to sleep by accident with baby in the bed. She now makes sure that she is fully awake and has not done it since.

Daughter has an alarm if baby stops breathing, and it went off two night ago, he was okay, but scared them an awful lot.

Emma, my thoughts are with you and Ajay today.

Also, all the people that loved you so much.

Rest in peace little one.

Thank you to the person who sent the poem to me - I hope she doesn't mind me sharing it. I am glad Emma has a support worker and hope the poem gives a little comfort to your sister and your daughter in law, Ann. So many lost little ones.....

I am sad to hear of this case.

So many of us have slept with our babies beside us. It always seemed the obvious thing to do after a night feed.
One of my friends did that and couldn't find her baby in the morning. He had slipped down the side of the bed and rolled underneath. Fortunately he was safe and asleep under the bed but it took my friend a while to work out where he was.

I hope the poor girl may find comfort in her family and friends.

Liz
I have sent a copy of the poem to my sister, and also to my daughter in Law, you may remember that she had our baby Grandson born asleep (Toby) in October 2000.
