Perhaps they've banned it because it's the most disgusting thing ever? :-))

I will own up to finding Marmite a bit too salty, so I switched to vegemite, but I doubt if there is much difference! Either way teachers always overstep the mark when it comes to packed lunch. Theres salt in cheese too !

As for checking their boxes thats a step too far.

Muffyxx Report 10 Oct 2008 20:37

Pardon my ignorance but there is salt in bread?

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 10 Oct 2008 20:27

I would've thought sugar and salt were equally as bad..............

Well..........it won't stop me eating it........or my girls.........we all love it here. I bet they don't look in the lunch boxes and see the salt and vinegar crisps or the digestive biscuits that have as much if not more salt as marmite.........world has gone mad.

At my girls school they have to have their lunch boxes inspected...........it's like the food police there.........I suspect it's so mugs like me just give in and buy school dinners though lol.

Mind I got an invite to go for school lunch with my eldest this week and I have to admit it was lovely and well worth the money.........xx

Surely Jam and Marmalade are full of sugar!! With the tendancy for overweight children I would have thought sugar is the last thing needed.

Noooo - how is it bad for you? My children had marmite sandwiches every day while they were at school - it was the only thing I could manage as I can't stand the sight of food first thing in the morning.
When they complained, I told them to make their own..............a week later they were back on the marmite!!!! LOL

Also. when I was young, I was given a daily dose of 'Virol' - which I believe, like marmite is yeast extract

A school in Ceridigion has banned children from eating Marmite on toast at their breakfast club. It is bad for you, they say! Well, I've been eating Marmite every day for 73yrs and I am definitely still here! My 70 yr old brother is also a fan. I believe that Jam and Marmalade are allowed.
