Hi Daff ...... the one that astounded me the most was the people who wanted a refund on the rest of the yearly registration fee (we have to register our dogs every year here) cause they had the dog put down...because they didn't want to take it on holiday.

Hi Susan.... yes, and the shame of it is, this poor dog is the one who will get it in the neck, so to speak... she was beautifully natured, and very biddable... well, except that she legs it!! I get soooo cross, cos it is the poor dog that will pay the price for the owners stupidity!!
That is not to say that all dog owners are stupid.... I do know that most are very responsible owners!
it's only me.... my two dogs were trained to do that.... a friend of mine was a puppy walker for prospective guide dogs... and one of the tasks was to train them to widdle and poop on command in a specific place, so I adapted it so that poops were all done in my own garden..... and widdles only in areas I could be certain no sport was played or no children played.

That's some dog owners have lot to answer to. I have pockets full of plastic bags when I take mine out for walks and he is always on the lead except for the disignated areas - that are well away from any residential areas here - I work in the same building as our local animal control officer and can tell you some stories about so called responsible owners (not).

There is a gorgeous Jack Russell keeps wandering where I live....can't work out who the owner is yet but poor thing is going to get run over one of these days. It wanders in and out of all our gardens. methinks some children let it off it's lead. Annoying isn't in it? especially when one gets lip......good on you for saying something.
Wait and see if it happens again, maybe he will take the hint and as has already been said, he may have been angry because he knew he was in the wrong.

Hi McAnne... I must have missed that thread last night!!! It is soooo annoying.... I had a lab and GSD.... the GSD never left my side, but she would do a runner if anyone else walked her off the lead, so I didn't allow it, not even hubby could walk her off lead just in case... but we lived in the middle of the country, a deserted Army barracks and estate... and the only creatures were the heifers and bullocks who were put into the field nearest us....
Bonny was petrified of them!! And they knew it! So she wouldn't go near them, and I know she did escape a couple of times when she was very young... leapt a 6ft high fence!!. But we sorted that!

I would have a chat with your local dog warden if i was you ........
I had a very similar thing just the other day - i posted a thread about it last night - when my Louie was chased by a greyhound which was off the lead whilst being walked by someone who was 'minding' the dog.
Now most dogs will disobey their owner given half a chance, so the odds of them disobeying a carer are tenfold fgs - where's their mentality!!!!
(and i state now this is not aimed at ALL dog owners - only the minority that let your side down lol)
It makes me mad when they shout 'it's alright he wont' hurt them' as their dog pounds after my petrified cats - well they don't blinky know that do they ????????????? *fumes*
Anyway - he's being abusive cos he knows he's in the wrong - report him anyway!!

Hiya Sue... that is exactly what I told him I would do!! I can't believe I stayed polite!!
She was a poppet, mind.... rested into me, and I gave her a drink and a cat treat, she licked my hand before taking... that was so sweet!..... I know the cat treats used to give my dogs dreadful wind, so I just gave her a couple of little ones! ;¬))

What a pillock Daff!
OH's boxer used to wander off from our garden after we left the farm as he missed the fields I guess.
Fortunately all the farmers knew him cos he was white and they used to tie him up and either call us or drop him back.
Strange dogs on the loose found in with sheep around here will be shot!
This man is lucky the dog found you and not someone less caring.
Next time, dognap it and phone the authorities!

A man walks his Doberman in the lane at the side of my house... well, I say walks, but he tends to let her off the lead and let her go where she will..... she has been desperate to get under my fence to get at the cats for ages!!. However, she has never managed it.
He goes weeks without coming around, and then comes back and forth for a fortnight or so... and then every morning for about an hour, he is whistling and calling her cos she has done a runner! I have never said anything... I just make sure the cats are safe in the garden or house and let them get on with it.
Today, she answered his call after about 45 minutes, but from my side of the fence!! She was frantic... she ran down my road towards the fence, and not from the thicket lining the lane on the other side..This means that she had to have come around the long way, crossing main roads and past a primary school.
She is a beautiful dog, a Doberman. But... she was off the lead, and therefore not controlled... she then also chased my cats, in their own garden!!. My back door was open.... and in she went!! I used a belt I had cut off a blouse to loop around her collar to grab her... and she followed me right as ninepence!
The owner passed her lead over the fence and I clicked it on her... she was very biddable and friendly, and fortunately I am not at all frightened by dogs!
I then had to wait almost 20 minutes while he walked around to collect her. Well.... walked to his home and collected his vehicle!
When he arrived he dived straight in and the first thing he accused me of was having a hole in my fence, lol that if I didn't want dogs to break in, I should make sure my property was dogproof!! There IS a small gap at the bottom for the fox and wildlife to pass through..... a small dog would be able to do it, but not a doberman without damage to self or fence!! And she came running down the road.... and was frantically trying to get back to him via the fence, but couldn't... she was lathered and panting, so had clearly had a good long run!
Then... when I suggested the route the poor dog would have taken and parents might have felt their children at risk and reported her loose, this cultured and well spoken elderly man suggested that if I was that bothered about roaming pets, maybe I should put a lead on my cats, and to mind my own F*** business!! It came from nowhere!
I laughed and pointed out that the law didn't require me to do so... but that the law DID require dog owners to have their dogs under control at all times.... it is irrefutable, it is the law... I also pointed out that she is a lovely dog, and so she was, very affectionate and responsive to my basic cmmands while she was with me....
So he then turned on me again... and said that I was cruel, and condemning the dog to walking only on the lead, and not being allowed to run free, that I was cruel, wicked, and call myself an animal lover?
It turns out that she is not his, but he looks after her every so often... and that she wouldn't hurt a cat, or a rabbit, if I had one.... she just wanted to chase and play with them!! And it is my job to keep dogs out... not his to keep the dog, which isn't even his, so there, under control!!
Now initially, my tone had been one of pointing out that others might be concerned enough to report.... not me..... but my parting shot was that if he lost the dog again, and I was a witness to it, then I would report him. And I would also hang onto the dog until someone responsible came along, next time...
His parting shot was *call yourself an animal lover? I don't think so...
Right... rant over... but I so wanted to let the tyres down on his BMW 58 estate thingy!!
