I agree with that, Jax - manners is about consideration for others. I don't think about openening doors for women necessarily but I generally hold open a door for anyone, unless they do it for me first. Most people I come across are the same.

Smiling hun, just remembering the children, pupils I taught, whatever their age, running to fetch me a small chair so that I could sit at their height, being my memory so I would not lose my pen and more ......

Tis such a lovely feeling, even now as I remember .........., they would always greet me with, "Mrs ....., can I?" "Mrs ......, would you like me to .....?" ........ I respected them and in turn, received respect back. xxx

There is more to manners than just opening doors and saying please and thankyou, its also treating those around you as you would wish to be treated something sadly not many people do anymore.

I always hold doors open for people even though I very rarely get a thankyou, say please and thankyou, give up my seat on public transport for those who may need it more than I do, walk on the outside of a pavement when im walking with a child my mum still did this with me up until she died lol all these things I have enstilled upon my children and yes they do use them.

There is nothing nicer than when I man hold dorrs open, offers a seat on a crowded bus or train, wipes a bench for you before you sit down.

Would treat my little boy every now and then as he never ever asked ... did change slightly when he became a teenager ... smiling lol :), part of growing-up I suppose, he always tried yet never won. Has now returned to the values he was brought up with, reminds my great-niece when she forgets lol. xxx

I would never dream of asking for something without saying please and thankyou, and if my kids asked me for something and didnt say please they dont get it, it simple.

Classic example at my work last week - young fella who works here wanted to borrow £1 for something...........

instead of saying to my (female) colleague 'could you possibly lend me a £1 please'

he just said 'got a £1?' and stuck his hand out ! ! ! !

How rude is that???? needless to say she declined saying even if she did have she wouldn't have lent it after being asked like that.

Strangely we couldn't make him understand what he did wrong ! ! ! !

Me too, luv to hear children say please and thank you, grown-ups too.

I totally agree ... We were raised that way, brought my own son up to do so. Also feel that it is nothing to do with PC, just makes the world a nicer place.

Good morning Shimmer, Manners are something I have always insisted on with my family, I love to hear a child say please and thank you. I do like a door held open for me but I would also hold one open for someone else whether male or female. xx

Very difficult for the men to open doors when so many females wish to classed as "equal" now.

I don't think that manners really have much to do with PC more with upbringing. How many children are brought up with table manners , the no elbows on the table, requesting to be excused before leaving a table, etc.
My OH still opens doors for me, seats me at a table first and walks on the road side of the pavement. It's just the way he was brought up.
PC or not manners cost nothing.

Me, I rather like doors being opened for me ... I say thank you, they say you're welcome.

I don't mind who opens the door, tis just nice. xxx

Just listening to the news, they are talking about good old fashioned manners, a gentleman opening a door for a lady and more ....... that PC has taken over.

Just interested ......... etiquette, manners .......how do you feel?

Would be interesting to know where they originated from.

Am sure we all have different opinions, feelings ...... a good old fashioned debate ....... only rule, no personal comments which I am sure would not happen.
