We have commented on the lack of birds too, we had loads when they were breeding but once the babies had grown they were all off to somewhere or other, a few collared doves go to the bird table and a magpie too, and that's about it. Saw a couple of starlings on the roof the other day tho so maybe they are on their way back, we provide a good restaurant for them.
Can't understand how you can all kill spiders, I just get them into something and put them outside. Have walked into a few webs recently when I open the patio doors to go out and forget to look where I am going.

I often rescue spiders from the shower before I get in so that the poor things won't drown.

My sister once had a spider in the bath and called for her husband to come deal with it. His answer was to put the cat in the bath and shut the bathroom door!

During the past week hubby has killed two massive ones in the family room. I asked how big they were, he said "about 2" including the legs". Oh sure I thought to myself, men always exaggerate about inches;)

Well...this morning I walked into the office to turn this thing on and there on the wall was a good two incher wearing army boots :)
He got the pleasure of reading a magazine realllly close up.

Hi Guys, We have noticed this summer the lack of birds in the garden, we normaly have loads of Sparrows Starlings, Dunnocks and Blackbirds flitting around but this year there is nothing, so strange,
Over the past years i have from our house watched Sparrows nesting in our neighbours house, and watched the parents feeding them in our garden when they have fledged.
But this year there has been nothing, this is the first time in about twenty years that they have not appeared.
This is probably the reason why we have so many spiders and other creepy crawlies in our houses, a lack of their natural predators.
Has anyone else noticed this lack of birds in their gardens and area's.

You will need to put holes in the duct tape Susan for airholes for yourself mind.

When I was younger and living with my parents, I woke up one night thinking I could hear a mouse running up the wall. Turned the light on and out of a hole in the wall (which I had told Dad so many times needed blocking up) was coming hundreds of tiny baby spiders. Much prefered to find it was spiders and not a mouse.

We're for sure overrun here in Central Canada. Exceptionally wet summer, and that's what happens.

No.1 goes around with the vacuum hose extracting them and their webs from the living room lamp, under the kitchen cupboards -- two places there are fluorescent bulbs on most of the time, so heat, I guess -- and the various other places they hang out. The little tiny almost invisible ones. He says they're back the next day.

I've been finding webs across the steps to the porch, from railing to railing, when I go to work in the morning ...

To put over my mouth so's I don't swallow one Michelle.....sigh!

If the truth be known....tis one reason I dont sleep too well..... ever since I woke up one day ( 12 ) and there was the hugest ( yes, I Know, lol ) black spider staring me in the face on the side of my pillow......even plastic spiders give me the shivers......

And what exactly are you going to do with the duct tape Susan?

I always feel bad for the spiders when I do suck up the cobwebs with the vacuum and all the effort they must have put into making their webs/homes.

Hi Kate, Ive always disliked spiders and the houses Ive lived in over the years have taught me so much about them, had no choice realy but to find out about them, wouldnt go to bed if I ever saw one in the bedroom, in September spiders start looking for a mate thats why most of the huge ones are seen then, also when its very windy they start to run around mad,, spiders will drink fluids from your mouth when your asleep, so many people swallow spiders without realising it, could tell you some horror stories about me and spiders, the difference in the weather we are experiencing these years affect them too, live longer grow bigger etc, Im not so afraid of them now but the hoover is always on standby for through the night for just in case, they are harmless,(there is a garden spider which can nip) and very beautiful realy, still I cant hold one but I dont run a mile now, silly realy when Ive dealt with all sorts of animals etc all my life including rptiles.seems to stem from an experience I had in childhood, anyway good luck with the cobwebs, sleep tight, Dawn

Poor spider was probably minding his own business when he got shoved out into the dark.

I was sitting on my bed last night using the laptop when a spider walked across the screen and then went back up his web line to the ceiling, where he still is today.

My grandson, home from Uni, brought his girlfriend this time.
A blood curdling scream woke us all up , so we rushed to the bedroon, there was tiny girlfriend wearing a tiny towel dancing on the bed pointing at the scary Tarantula !!
My daughter calmly placed a glass over it and carried it to the open window.saying, "We do not scream in this house!" slammed the door and went back to bed !
Peace restored !

This one's odd, I've decided - it seems to be suspended in mid air but I think there are a lot of cobwebs round the ceiling. Tomorrow I'm getting the big long hairy brush out and going round everywhere with it.

You'd think we had enough animals with two cats and a dog - now we've got spiders and things too . . .

Is anyone else's house getting overrun by them? I have been scouring the house trying to get rid of cobwebs for two days (all over the utility room) but they are still around!

At the moment there is a massive one in my room that has just worked its way up my wall and halfway across my bookcase! (It must be spider season - I know they kill the flies, but I don't like crawly things and they're not doing their job because there are loads of flies around too!)
