My son's partner is in hospital - their first child, and my first grandchild, is due on 1st October but things have not gone to plan. It seems the baby is not growing and may have lost weight so he/she will be induced and born in the next two days. The baby will only weigh about 3-4 pounds. I never thought I would be a grandma.

Crispen, your son's partner is in the right place!!
the baby will only be 3 weeks early and 3 - 4 lbs is not uch a problem nowadays.
I was 6 weeks early in 1956 - true they couldn't tell if I had lost weight, I was 4 and a half pounds (very light for those days). My full term elder sister weighed 9 lbs.
Intensive care consisted of putting me in an incubator and seeing if I would survive - nothing like nowadays!!
Well, I've reached the age of 52. Got a degree when I was 43 and found out in January of this year that I had been existing all those years with one - after checks - very healthy kidney - that had never been noticed!!! The scan also showed my spleen and liver (despite hepatitis as a child and a rather strong liking for red wine) to be healthy too!!

You will be a granny - positive thoughts shooting through cyberspace for the baby, your son, your son's partner, her parents and you.
