Rosalyn,

As a retired Perfumery Consultant I would say you were ripped off !!
No perfume company will sell any of their products to any one other than authorized store outlets.
They have their brand name to protect.
I saw this all to often as people would try and
exchange their *FAKE* in the stores that I worked
in. Sadly just by the look of the box and the cellophane wrapper would give the game away to a trained Perfumer.
My advice is to take it to the Brand House ie ;
the Perfume maker in a store and ask the consultant if it is genuine.
They can even fake the numbers on the boxs as this shows the batches to when the fragrance was produced.
The only way it could be genuine is if they were stolen. but not in the quantities from the market stalls, or pubs !!
Also after two hrs if no whiff is left a good sign too !

You're in good company. A friend of mine who should know better (she's a copper) got conned the same way.

It brought to mind the story of my Nan buying a tie off a "stall" on Oxford Street in the 50's. As she handed over the money the lookout shouted out "Cops" the suitcase was closed and the stallholder ran off to avoid arrest. He hadn't given my Nan her change so she chased him. I would have loved to have seen it. All 4 ft 10 and 16 stone of Nan chasing and swearing at an athletic six footer.
