was going to edit muktitude to multitude but do so think it passes best as the descriptive word

Think that like very much else European Administrators are going to take more notice of European people after the muktitude failed crazy ideas that seem todrown out all the good ones.

Perhaps we should be more concerned at the calls by the nationalist administration in the Scottish Parliament who are looking to hive Scotland off as a separate nation in 2012.

And why have you singled out the British only as being *little* in so far as their reporting and their political stance is concerned?

As you pointed out.... other countries would feel just as much national pride, and outrage, at the very thought of their medals being hi-jacked on the whim of some non-elected political group.... don't you think?

So would their views then also be *little France* or *little Spain* or *little Germany*

Incidentally, I have spoken to a Spanish relative who flew over for a visit with my son and granddaughter yesterday, who is aware of this as well... and she too is aghast that this could happen!! There has been reporting of it in the Spanish press..... I presume there is comment in other countries, as well.

It won't happen.

If all the athletes were competing under one flag there would still only be 3 qualifying competitors per event.

Could you imagine the Olympic trials? Every European 100m runner trying to get chosen for the event and then multiply that by all the events = chaos!

There would be international squabbles developing into diplomatic rows and Europe would fragment again as countries would claim independance in order for their athletes to perform :-)))

Funds should be withdrawn from this idiotic group and they should be disbanded forthwith!

Probably in fifty or so years each with their own flags and teams will follow the the European flag but at the moment I doudt it

By the way Terry... it is Great Britain... not little Britain.... or United Kingdom, if you'd prefer!!

No Terry, not rumour..... fact.... the organisation DOES exist, the funding HAS been given.... and there is a branch of said organisation here in Britain.

I too doubt that they would be successful on their own... far too small and insignificant a group.

However, if you look more carefully at the structure of said group, you will find that there are some MEP's seriously involved in it....... now as we know, Europe has slowly been dragged into a single unit, often with it's citizens kicking and screaming against it..... but the decisions of a FEW have steamrollered the desires of the people.

So I am afraid I do not trust these small little groups.... they are often just the tip of an iceberg!!

And I believe, if you read the report carefully, it is aimed at the British reader..... but it does state that the idea is for the WHOLE of Europe to be united under one flag as far as the Olympics are concerned.

Of course a British paper will tend to sensationalise and aim the story at the British public, primarily!!

I don't think it will happen in my lifetime..... but unless we stand and fight this gradual erosion into our individual national identity, Europewide. then I fear there will be a slow but inexhorable slide to total *Europeanisation*

However..... my guess is that there will be a revolt and a backlash...... and it will eventually revert back almost as it was, with a bit of border fudging here and there.

I doudt wether it will there are 359 million folk in Europe most of them very proud of their nationality but also see the advantage in much of the EU
We in Norway have to follow EU law in the same way as the UK being members of the EES which is Norway Iceland and Liechestien and the EU. Switzerland has had to come to a similar over national agreement with the EU. where more or less EU law is also Swiss law
But too say Europe wants to hijack the British medals, is a typical "little" Britain rumour as every other European country's medals would also be hijacked
As for combating Nationalism doudt wether it would

Can you imagine the uproar from every single country if they handed over their national pride.

And what about the European Competitions..............errrrrrrrrr, how would the medals be given

Gold .....Euroteam
Silver Euroteam
Bronze Euroteam

The European cup winners cup would go to ...........the Euroteam, as would the runners-up medals! LOL

Why would France, Germany Spain Italy, Poland, Holland, Greece, Rumania, Latvia, Netherlands, Denmark, Lithuania, Estonia, Malta, Check Republic, Ireland Slovakia, Slovania, Hungry, Bulgaria,Luxemberg, Belgium, Cypruss, Austria, and Sweden, with their own proud traditions and there equal pride in both flag and team, want thiers to vanish under the EU flag Think this is another of those "Europe" rumours where Europe is not a collection of proud independent counrties but some mysterios thing that wants to gobble up only the British
Why instead of grumbling amongst yourselves ask the Danes, or Netherlanders, or Swedes what they think of the idea. You will find they are just as against it as any British person!!!!!!!!!
And their teams also won medals in Beijung

Interesting to note that Mr Charles Kennedy is one of the members of the UK branch of this group.... which has amongst it's ranks other UK mep's.... mmmmm!!

And funded by the EU.... it does at the very least raise questions about the use of EU money!!
