I must admit Liz that I have never actually eaten Lardy cake but people certainly couldn't get enough of the ones we made back then.

A little of what you fancy does you good...thats my motto...........lol

Amanda - Lardy cakes are from Wiltshire and you can still buy them in some shops, I make one now and then as some of the shop ones are too dry - not at all healthy but wot the heck.

Liz :)

Does anyone eat Lardy cake ?..........I used to work with my cousin, who baked bread/cakes and sold them on a market stall..........people loved the Lardy cake ( which I had never heard of before ).Where does it originate from ?

Can you make pastry withb olive oil?

AnninGlos Report 25 Jun 2008 22:09

haven't bought it for years and have ditched the deep fat fryer (hadn't used that for several years either). Both of us have to watch our cholesterol so don't think lard would be a good idea. Always used to make pastry with half lard and half margarine.
Use mostly olive oil these days.

Lard is from pork. Which is why we can't use it at school now as we have a few kiddies who can't eat pork products.

I haven't used it for years. I know when I did, the pan chips were cooked in had to be left for the next time with this great white thing lurking in the bottom.
