What things make you remember your grandparents?

Yorkie granny, Pipe tobacco my maternal grandfather yes. and if I go anywhere someone has been pipe smoking I am back in their house Others are sweet peas, apples in the attic where they were stored for the winter( they had a large orchard). I learned to dressmake watching my grandmother and my mum without realising I was learning, woodsmoke and newly cut grass. The memories are endless. Elaine.

sadly remember very little of my grandparents - paternal ones died when I was very young as did maternal grandmother - never knew maternal grandfather

You know that chennile throws are popular at the mo, well I can remember Nan having a tablecloth made out of very similar material, it was a deep red colour. Nan used to have an outside loo and it was always freezing cold in there. I can remember Nan's mangle in the garden and when she did the washing it was in a Burco boiler and she used to use Blue bags.

The black and white minstrel show, coal fires and an outside toilet with hard paper.
but my other grandmother died when she was 98 so memories are more up to date....she use to drink a lot and dance the can can lol

My Gran used to say after we came out of the sea at Carnoustie beach "Do you want a chittery bite ?"

Hi Muffy, Only knew my Dad's mum. Dad's dad died when Dad was only 7, Mum's mum died when she was 5 and her dad died when I was 3 1/2 so only have 1 memory of him, that's sitting on his lap looking out of the front room window and seeing parachutists in the sky. Have lots of lovely memories of Nan though. If ever I see a packet of Woodbine ciggies I think of Nan.

If my grandad were alive he'd say *his name is really Henry Church you know*

I know this as he used to call Julio.......Joe Church lol

I can almost feel him in the room xx
