My family is mixed race. My sil is of Antiguan parents born here. My neighbours to the left are Asian and to the right Turkish. The majority of the people living in our street are either Asian, West Indian, Somalian and a few English. Our community is very multi cultural. In my church we proudly claim to be of 16 different nationalities and we all get along like one big family. When I go home to Wales I always find it very strange not to see coloured people out and about.

Not really. There are a few people who are,I think, eastern european who pick the raspberries. They only stay here for a few weeks.
Some students at the college asked me what the ethnic mix was here.Actually they are!

When I went out a walk at lunch time today from work I felt I was in a foreign country as everyone apart from the school kids were either African , Asian or something else non white. We have lovely Asian neighbours across the road, my next door neighbour is Polish , he`s been here for years.

We have an asian family a few rds away and run our local shop / post office, they are always nice and polite - and say hello if we see them when we are doing our shopping out in town.

Having queued in their shop we have seen what they face every day which is not on, they work hard and long hours and perform a service no one else locally has chosen to do.

I personaly think they are a very important part of our community and I consider them high up in the local community and certainly more so than some of the layabouts that dont do anything than moan and collect their giro.

If it wasnt for them a lot of our older comminity would not get to speak to people on a daily basis and we would not have a local (free) cash machine and other things they have campaigned for.

I for one would be proud to have them living next door.

We have Indians - alas not red ones, so no tepees in the garden. But smell of cooking sometimes is mouthwatering. An Italian about 6 doors up. OH is Irish so have one in the house pmsl.

Up the road is another Irish family - no two that know of, one southern ireland one Belfast. There is also a Geman lady up the next street. I am sure there are lots more.

Mostly British people around here but there is a family from Bangladesh and another family South African / Asian.
All are very friendly hard working folk.

A little further away nearer to Folkestone are many Nepalese from the Gurkha Regiment.

Next door but one are Asian. The men work in a local Indian restaurant. The wife and 2 daughters hardly ever leave the house, and hide if we ever knock on their door. Every few months, they make curry and the smell coming from their house is absolutely gorgeous.

The man that cuts our lawn (we are too lazy) is Turkish. Every few months he pops back home to help on the family olive farm. Always brings us back Turkish delight that his sister has made.......Yum
