This is a very interesting thread.
I wake some nights in a panic for a drink. I am also not sleeping very well. Could these be signs of the menpause too.
I am 42..

...at least i'm not alone!!

Anyway I'll take the blood test and i am hoping (secretly) that it is the menopause - at least it can be managed. Otherwise, its something else!

My sister has just experienced scary feelings like panic attack ,hot head coming up over the back of her neck weak arms and legs.
I have suffered hot flushes ,tiredness ,achy muscles wooziness ,and so it goes on.I think it is all to do with the B****y Menapause. What some of us women have to put up with.!!!!!Another symptom is having disturbed sleep.Waking up feeling knackered..

You can have a bloodtest to check whether or not you are menopausal so if the doctor has not offered that then ask so at least you're sure.

Tell me Ann, did you have it for a long time?

I dont think I could cope , Im exhausted now and my neck muscles are aching too!!

Weirdest thing is my monthlies are like clockwork, bang on day 28 and last 5 days- like always.

I had similar 'attacks' when I was going through the menopause until I went on HRT. I also used to have a 'crawling' feeling all over my skin.

I went through the menopause at 42 and had no symptoms whatsoever.

But, apparently (having gone through the menopause etc), I now snore !!! (so OH tells me although I am not sure I believe him), so might be a connection with the menopause 'cos I never snored before!

I am just reviving this post I did early in the year as it is happening all over again- only more often!

This time I went to the GP and she said- possible menopause- I'm 42. I have to have a blood test.

Has anyone had any strange symptoms during the menopause?

It is Lancs but not that unusual, I suffer far less as an adult than I did in my teens and am also on a panal for a university that is studying the condition. I just fill out a few surveys a couple of times a year.

The next day you feel a total write off, but as I say I am fortunate the frequency has lessoned over the years. But it is a very scary condition.

My family all know not to wake me suddenly lol.

Crikey Maddie that sounds a bit scary to me.

I thought of sleep apnea (sp) because I do snort myself awake sometimes ! I also have mild asthma & hayfever, but this was different because I felt my breathe stop then start then stop again and I woke up but felt as though I was about to faint and my heart was pounding and my back was sweaty.

I gave up smoking 7 years ago, havent drunk alchohol in years (just because I dont like the morning after feeling- I hate nausea) dont drink coffee at home just at work (and its decaff), but have a stressful job. Overweight by about a 2 stone ish.

Im 41 Caz!!

Edit: Drank gallons today!!

Could also be that you have anaemia. Can cause the same symptoms. Get a blood count done.

I think it all sounds good advise - go see your doc if it keeps up and make sure you are taking lots of fluids.

However, it may sound strange did a noise wake you like a sound of heavy breathing or something and did you find it easy to move when you woke?

Your symptoms also sound vaguely but not directly like a form of sleep apnoea which I suffer from occasionaly.

Symtoms can include not being able to speak or move when waking suddenly - (Sleep Paralysis), you also hear odd sounds or see dream-like images (although I can never see which is even more scary) I know I am awake but my body is still physically sleeping. My heart races as I cant move and can cause hyperventilation and I cant breath becuase it feels like there is a weight on my chest. I have to concentrate really hard to move anything even just wiggle a finger or toe to break the paralysis (which feel like hours often I fall back asleepthrough the sheer exhustion) or keep trying to call out but I cant move my mouth - then wake up screaming.

I believe this is quite a common sleep disorder and I am afraid as far as I know there is no cure.

Just to reduce caffine and alcahol, smoking etc before bed and of course stress. I would say I am not someone that get stressed but I do suffer worse if I have things on my mind.

If you get a chance to read this book, I highly recommend it "Your body's many cries for water" by F. Batmanghelidj, MD.
It's basically a manual for those who prefer the more natural approach to many conditions. Excellent. Google it (or "Goodsearch" it, and give to charity while you're at it) for more info.

Lancs Lass suggest you try drinking more. My daughter doesn't drink a lot and was out one day in car, had to pull over and summon ambulance - she was losing blood etc turned out she dehydrated she is now drinking more. Same thing happened with a cousin in States she had to be admitted ER and rehydrated - cost her $800!!

If you don't drink enough you will damage your kidneys

Just come back from the funeral. Everything went ok she was my Aunt. All the family had a good natter about the 'good old days' even though I am the youngest and I dont remember any of the things they were saying about my grandma & grandad . A date has been set for a meal out because we only ever get together at funerals!

No further symptoms to report, no flutters, palpatations or shortness of breath, although did feel a touch lightheaded. I now have a banging headache (not drink related, as I dont). Probably from being tired. Thinking about dehydration as I was very warm last night and I never drink enough.

If it happens again tonight definitely booking an appt at the docs.

Thanks for your advise.
