Anne, I used the seeds, sunflower, linseeds and pumpkin and chopped them before adding to cereal and they were lovely. Best done freshly each time and try not to buy ready chopped ones as they have already lost some goodness. Many cereals already have these seeds in already as does the bread but the linseeds are left whole in those.
Have fun experimenting, only please don't look too slim and elegant in June, I don't want to look like a fat old frump next to you so if you look too good, will have to shout at you from the other end of the room lol

And smoothies are to be wary of if you are trying to watch your weight !!!

As my slimming world leader told us - when you pulp fruit it increases it's sugar content - so by eating/drinking smoothies full of fruit you are overloading on sugar .............

Janice and co. We DID try making our own smoothies but, as you say, it is so expensive. I could have wept watching my entire week's supply of costly fruit disappearing into just one measy glass. Then we had no fruit left for the rest of the week so the kids ended up snacking on other children's crisps instead.

It is easier to eat healthily the less complicated the food preparation process is. I've never got on with blenders, etc as I hate all the mess and clearing up.

Best advice I can offer is to keep it simple and have a wide variety of different coloured fruits and veggies, nuts, seeds and sprouted beans. In the Summer, the kids and I love eating chopped up veggies with various dips (as low or high calorie as you choose). Don't forget mange tout and mini sweetcorns as you may end up getting stuck in a rut of carrot and cucumber sticks! Brilliant for taking on picnics too.

We have a selection of sprouted beans (once sprouted they keep well in the fridge) which we can add to sandwiches or sprinkle in salads. Toasted sunflower and pumpkin seeds make tasty salad additions too.

I DO use my hand blender quite a bit though as it is so hassle-free and quick. It can turn a pan of veggie stock and veggies into a lovely soup in no time at all.

Janice

Isn't that just the way ???

I keep trying to explain to my Mum - I don't have a problem with doing the healthy eating thing but most of the time i cant afford it !!

I'm on my own so just one barely adequate income to cover everything :O(

Just reading the wee book that came with mine cos i have a few carrots looking lonely in the fridge lol

Just Jean... Juice Master by Phillips takes whole fruit - some exceptions and not much need for cutting as feeder shute is wide... takes a whole apple

Try books by Jason Vale aka the Juice Master. or Gillian Mckeith? You are what you eat or
Carol Vordeman 28day Detox .. Tried the detox once and when in the local shopping centre - Stoneborough- could smell the fat from the burgers being cooked.

What l want to know is when you try to eat heathily why is it soooo expensive

Morning Liz

No - no mention of nuts .............. pmsl

I have a real tiny little (was gonna say chopper lol) errrr chopping up machine which would be ideal for nuts

my mum always used to have pine nuts on her salads when dieting - personally i'm not sure i'd like them on cereal - i'm a bit faddy about mixing sweet & savoury things

Jean - your question about peeling - i would say yes - personally i do peel most things but i do believe there are some top of the range blenders that do that for you, if you are prepared to pay the extra money for it :O)

Many thanks for the contributions so far - much appreciated :O)

Did she say anything about nuts and seeds Anne, as if you blend them you get more goodness from them, sprinkle on cereal.
LInseeds especially are better for you if not left whole, and you can use lots of different things, from H and B or J. Graves.

Gazpacho is a lovely drink /Cold Soup full of goodness too.heres the recipe:-)

For 6 - 8 people

1 1/4kg ripe tomatoes
1/2 medium onion
1/2 standard cucumber
1 green pepper (the long thin type) or 1/2 a bigger pepper
1 cup olive oil
2 soup spoons vinegar
some stale bread - this quantity can vary depending on taste - I use very little
some cold water
3 ice cubes

Make sure the toms are peeled and the cucumber, you can make it chunky or smooth however you prefer,

To garnish you need a small amount of:

diced tomato
diced green pepper
diced cucumber
croutons

You can leave out the olive oil if you like,I do.
I make a batch for a couple of days and keep it in the fridge and just get a tall glass every day.

fresh carrots and a stick of cerley with splash of worst sauce make refreshing tasty drink, or a cold soup, might need to sieve it,,

tomatoes are good then sieved,,,,,,,,

most soft fruits,,,,,just try few mixes as some dont taste so nice together, fresh oranges and bit of pear nice,,,,,

just have fun trying,,,,
