Hi Ann

POP3 is the language computers use to exchange emails while ports are the doorways into computers. Port 110 is the doorway on yahoos computer, known as the mail server, that holds your emails.

The problem is AVG can’t see yahoos mail server.

This almost certainly due to your firewall program blocking AVG’s access to both the mail server and the AVG update server. You’ll need to change your firewall setting to allow AVG to access the Internet.

I can't stop right now but which firewall are you using?
I won't be back until about midnight so let me know if you get this sorted.

Steve, I don't use AVG Firewall and use Firefox not IE. How do you mean 'log in' using IE? Sorry to be a bit thick but it is not just me OH is very pc literate and he can't see how to get round it. In fact he failed with setting up Yahoo and has got Gmail.

I am so tired I think I will give up for today. disabled AVG and it still wouldn't connect albeit with a different message.

I thought this would be easy!!
Thanks for those who tried to help.

I think Steve means, by going to the yahoo site and logging in there, rather than setting it up to outlook, forgive me if I'm wrong, Steve.

I don't have my email account set up to outlook, I always go to the website and log in that way.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 19 Apr 2008 17:24

yes, I can do that, have just done it. I will just have to remember to go that way. i normally go through windows mail where the other accounts are set up with no problem.

Ann
Until Tuesday this week I could access my emails via outlook using BT/Yahoo as my broadband isp. I have now had to access my emails via the yahoo site as according to BT tech support I spoke to they no longer support Outlook.

Di, thank you, that could be the answer. what we have now done is to set up yahoo with a permanent forwarding instruction to our other e mail address.

I added this to my other thread but in case nobody checks that one.

I have managed to add the yahoo address to my windows mail accounts. Now I can receive mail on Yahoo but can't send it. I can send on yahoo's web site though.

any ideas. Is Windows mail blocking me sending or would it be Blueyonder our ISP?

I may be wrong but I THINK you can only use Windows Mail (I am assuming you are using Vista) to access Yahho Mail if you pay for the Plus version.

There is a way around this if you install extra third party free software if you want to go down that route.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 20 Apr 2008 13:01

thank you Errol, we suspected that as Di (few posts back) said that she is no longer able to send her yahoo via BT. But why can I receive mail? I would have thought it was all or nothing. Yes it is Vista
