got on bus the other month and offered my seat to an elderly man must have been about 80,AND HE SAID NO THANK YOU MY DAD TOLD ME ALWAYS GIVE YOUR SEAT TO A LADY, BLESS HIM FOR CALLING ME A LADY AND HE GOT MY RESPECT!!

Sorry SR.Squirrel-it's 'cause I'm newish.
Round here you try & earn respect & go in to shock if any is shown!
Politeness is a long word for some locals-a 'grunt' is deemed acceptable.lol

From my point of view, it is when you hear youngsters refer to you as " that woman". My OH says he hates going into shops ,garages, etc, and being called Sir, lol.

I had a thread about this. The best answer in my opinion was that you earn respect but expect politeness.

I was brought up to respect my 'elders'-how do you know when your an 'elder'?
