i totally agree with ann too.

i have the same problem dee only they cant say my surname and end up shouting my first name, i used to jump up when they tried to call me, but now i sit and watch them struggle, when you go and say your here at the hospital and you give your name they should take note on how to say it.

maybe it petty of me, but when you attend regular you would think they would grasp it.

my dad always says you earn respect and give respect accordingly.

I earned respect when I came out with more swear words than the local sh*tes!!
They'd never heard of 'Balderdash' and 'Nincompoop'! (amongst others) lol!!!.

Andie,
Being British, a name like Hughes is very common, I have be called quite a few choice things because foriegn people don't know how to pronounce it. I'm a size 18 and I get miffed being called Huge!
I suppose we all have problems one way or another lol

First thing I was taught in management was that you can demand compliant behaviour but you have to earn respect of those who report to you

I work at the local hospital, part of our training,is 'First impressions Count'. In it we are told to greet people with either Sir, Madam,Dr.When working on any of the receptions, mind you with some of the people that arrive it's done through gritted teeth! Respect should be a two way thing,if we are trying to help them then they should give us the respect of at least listening to what we are saying.
Moan over :)

You must respect to earn respect and that starts from birth. A child who is polite and says his thank you's as a sign of respect must be rewarded with a reply ie you are welcome
