I'm with you on this one Roxanne.
Poor people musy be thinking that SOMEONE will help us..... I too am ashamed of 'myself'... but alone, I can do nothing. As a country we could do plenty.
We should be helping in some way... it is disgraceful.

Hi Ann, i agree with you, how long are they going to wait, how much more cruelty, how many more are going to starve, you know i reckon the peeps on here would make a better government, than the one we have got.

No Jean they dont, unfortunately - they will I think have to take a humanitarian view of things in the very near future, otherwise what little sway they cut will be minimised even further, and only show them up further to be a totally useless outdated organisation that has far too many chiefs and not enough indians.

African Nations will not stand up to Mugabe as their own regimes are suspect, and if this despot is toppled, then so will there's be.

The UK wont help because they would stand alone and quite frankly I dont think the UK could maintain a force in Zimbabwe and feed the people and get the country back on it's feet. We simply cannot afford it as we are fighting wars that have little enough to do with us in other parts of the world and squandering money that way.

It's a truly awful situation, and unless the UN do something positive, and call upon the member nations to depose the tyrant, then nothing positive will come out of the situation until Mugabe pops his clogs (sooner rather than later I hope).

oh Roxanne I so agree with you. I've been to Zimbabwe and it's a beautiful country with wonderful people. It just makes me so sad to see everything that has happened there because of this 'man'.

The nail has been hit perfectly on the head by others - no oil, no interest - makes my blood boil :-(

I have never supported state sponsored assination but in his case I would certainly make an exception. God help those people who have nothing and no hope of ever improving their lot whilst he and his cronies continue to smother democracry in it's infancy. African nations need to stand up and be counted NOW.

I can't believe the African nations are standing by and not exerting pressure.

It is so obvious that Mugabe lost the election but it just seems to be ignored.

As for the United Nations it is the most useless organisation ever. A dog without teeth(((

Roxanne Report 11 Apr 2008 18:46

Zimbabwean police have banned political rallies "with immediate effect", amid growing tension over the country's disputed presidential election.

The decision came amid confusion over whether President Robert Mugabe would attend a regional summit on the crisis, in Zambia at the weekend.

The results of the election, held 13 days ago, have yet to be released.

The opposition Movement for Democratic Change has called for a strike starting on Tuesday to pressure the authorities.

Mugabe has deployed the military in the provinces, in the districts... In other words, he is creating a new electoral environment that is neither free nor fair

Morgan Tsvangirai
Movement for Democratic Change leader

"We call upon transporters, workers, vendors and everyone to stay at home. The power is in our hands. Zimbabweans have been taken for granted for too long. We demand that the presidential election results be announced now," it said in a statement.

The MDC's leader, Morgan Tsvangirai has said he will not take part in any second, run-off presidential poll with Mr Mugabe.

"Mugabe has deployed the military in the provinces, in the districts. People are being beaten up," he told BBC Radio 4's World At One programme.
