I have had 3 Staffs over the past 25 years, two of them were from Battersea Dogs Home and they are the best breed you could ever wish to meet. They are friendly, loyal, love children and I also currently have a toy and a minature poodle, guess who is the boss - Yes thats right the toy poodle!!! Molly the Staff is the sweetess, kndest girl you could ever a meet as were the other two Daisy and Rosie, they were like twins, everybody knew the ose dogs, more than they knew me, these 3 Staffs are ttoally trust worthy, I would trust them with anyone.

OWNERS of Staffs can be the problem, especially young male YOBS, neeed I say more.........

I would just like to add one more thing that happened in the park on one occassion. By coincidence, a few dogs and owners all seemed to bump into each other at one point. There were about 8/9 dogs all mingling together off their leads, not one of them aggressive. Apart from my 2 staffies, there were 3 alsations, rottweiller. lurcher, doberman and X breed.

It was a pleasure to see.

I have a white English Bull Terrier called Flo and a giant slobbery Dogue de Bordeaux called Alf

Our nasty cat rules the roost and keeps them both in check.

All dogs are capable of aggression...I wouldn't lable one particular breed.

My daughter used to have an alsation /collie cross - she looked like a really healthy Alsation (no hip probs) only slightly smaller. Local 'thugs' were terrified of her. Why? Because she did as she was told and they didn't now what we would tell her to do!! lol
She was soft as the proverbial and loved my grand daughter when she was a baby. If any adult she didn't know/like the look of came near the pram they got the 'tooth show'.
However she never bit anyone in her life and had an awful habit of saying 'hello' to other children in pushchairs by trying to lick their faces as they passed!!!

A woman down the road had a Staffie (and 5 kids) she couldn't control. Daughters dog & staffie became good friends and Staffie regularly came to my house (left to roam the streets, which she obviously didn't really like) Uncontrolable? No way. She got on my sofa once, was told to move - and she did. A few sharp words, the 'riot act' read once, a few 'ahems' and the Staffie behaved like an angel!!! lol

I would like to add that at this time, I had 3 cats too!! they kept the staffie in order as well.

Staffies are ok with people, but generally not with other dogs.

I have a snappy Jack Russell (from Battersea Dogs Home) who will bark at most dogs until he gets to know them, so I keep him on lead. It really scares me when staffies are off lead in the park and approach us, as my dog will automatically bark, and staffies have massive jaws and can cause real damage.

Our dog, Roo, is a cross between a Belgian Shepherd, Rotweiller and Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He is absolutely huge and is the most stupid,docile, loving dog you could ever wish for. I allow him in with my two year old granddaughter,which I would not do if I had the slightest doubt about him.We have had him since he was 8 weeks old and he has never been any trouble at all.

Like Ann I will defend Staffie dogs. As soon as mine reach the park gates straight away they are both off their leads. One is 4 the other almost 2, and I can honestly say they are friendly loving dogs to everything they come across. All the regular dog walkers spoil them both with treats, and the 4 year old picks pockets. All the people they come across always compliment me on their behaviour, and they change their opinions about this breed of dog. I've grown up with dogs and the snappiest one we had by far was a Yorkie.

Like it was already mentioned previously, it is the owners of the dogs who encourage types of behaviour in certain breeds. It isn't necessarily the breed themselves that are nasty.

I am so impressed with their character, loyalty, intelligence and loving nature that I wouldn't hesitate at all in the future in having this breed of dog again.

I have been to see my daughters staffie dog today that she bought yesterday.He is 6 months old and is gorgeous.White with black patches and his name is Stamford. Annie

well we are on our third bull terrier - soft as butter, never met a nasty one yet - nasty owners - yes

Our lovely old bull terrier Geordie was frightened of my cat - we took Geordie for a walk along the canal one day - he was off the lead - along came a Yorkshire terrier, it only barked at him and he took off in the opposite direction like the wind - we had to chase him for about a mile to get him back!! asked the Yorkie owner not to mention it to the Bull Terrier club!! My son has a bull mastiff - a more soppy, non aggressive dog I have yet to meet - it's the owners of these nasty dogs who make them nasty - I've seen really nasty Yorkies and Jack Russels

Unfortunately these "cute" toughy dogs are only cute for a time.

It is all very well pretending that they are nice home pets but how many of them show their altered ego as soon as they go outside?

All bulldog species are naturally aggressive and can never be totally trusted. Staffies are a good example. People are quick to say they make good pets, until a child or other dog is ravaged.

30 years ago my wife had a Alsation Bull cross. Sweet as pie at home and with those he knew. He watched my eldest in his pram like the best of minders.

In the park, though, he was like a complete alter ego savage, fortunately did not attack any children but any ball the kids had was trashed within seconds.

Yes we loved him at the time but today, no not ever, in a thousand years.

Once when I took our Smelly Nelly to the vets she was sat next to another staffie called Sweaty Betty!!

PMSL With the right owners, Staffies are lovely soppy pets...

My mate has one, brindle bitch, and she is such a nutter. She looks like she would eat you whole, and she can rugby tackle you anytime, she's like a breeze block on legs. But she is soooo funny and so soppy

Staffies are lovely and 99% dont live up to that bad image people say they have , well thats my opinion anyway :)

I have a tough breed also, beast she is, like yours a Staffie :) We had her up the vets over the firework period and they put her on diazapam because she was having a nervous breakdown, shes scared of going out in the dark nighttimes and does not like any changes whatsoever, she will sit and whine on and off if we do anything different.

A so called 'tough' breed of dog? The only reason why I'm asking is because my staffie got chased out of the park by a sausage dog today!!! Do you have a tale to tell about your 'tough' dog?
