I've been on Atorvastatin for years now - before that Simvastatin - no ill effects whatsoever - my high cholesterol has nothing to do with my diet or lifestyle, it's familial - when first diagnosed following what I thought were heart attacks - dreadful chest pains - the reading was just under 10. Don't give me medication I said, I eat all the wrong things, I'll get it down. Went back in a month having given up most of the things I love to find it was now 11.5%!!!! So Atorvastatin it is!!!

O Yeah Jenny, forgot to tell you, when on statins you are not allowed grapefruit.
Its the only drawback as far as i am concerned, I love them !

Good luck

My OH has just said red meat only as a treat, then not fried. We have braised steak occasionally. I am OK, so when I fancy a piece of lamb OH has fish, done in the oven in foil.

We eat a lot of fish, not fried, also fruit and veg, and as the Old Geezer said, no big English breakfast.

I bought a steamer, and the veggies taste so nice done in this. Most food cooked in oven dry, no added fat. Also use microwave.

Good luck to you, Jenny, all better than the alternative.

Blimey Mac you're more frightening than my doctor! He said I must have inherited it from my dad who died at the age of 77 with a stroke. Doctor told me my dad was lucky to have lived until then
I get the message and I'll try to be a good girl from now on (not seeing him until 9th April though so won't be able to be good until then)

My hubby been on Simvastatin since 1995. he is now 72,and very active.

Of course he also watches the fats, and we have oven chips and fish. Also have Flora Pro-Active, dear, but worth it.

We do not buy anything with saturate fat over 5,

He gave up grapefruit and grapefruit juice, as we were told it would be bad for him. We now have Cranberry juice, which does the old water works good, so an added bonus.

He has had no side effects, and doctor keeps an eye on him.

He has just said to me go for it.

Thanks Bernie, I also exercise, don't eat fried food and little fat but it hasn't helped - impressed by how much yours has gone down. As you say I'll probably go for it!

I have been on Simvastatin for two years. Chol. Level was 8.9 despite not eating fried foods, fat and doing a lot of excercise. It is now steady at 4.2 and I have had no side effects, (touch wood).

Go for it, if you do get a side-effect you can deal with the problem then, don't look for probs now. Doctors would not prescribe them if they were dangerous.

Thanks for that, i will google all of them to see what they say. He prescribed Simuvastatin last year when cholresterol was 8.8 and I wimped out of taking them, despite him nagging me. Don't think I'm going to get away with it this time
Have heard so many bad reports about them
