Mine was 3 years old as i won a Tv/video combo and i don't see the big deal in it, he watches it and falls asleep to it, if i didn't have it up there i would have trouble getting him to bed and its only kids dvds he watches.

Older ones when they were in teens cos they shared a room. Youngest who is 8 has one cos everyone else does. She hardly watches it cos she falls asleep.

Hi Julie Cat
I suppose if they are just watching dvd's then its slightly different but I would not like my children to have the TV itself on watching goodness knows what without me knowing. videos and DVDs would be slighltly different - suppose like having the radio on.

Its very difficult and easy for us all to make comment but each family is different. lol

I think things are different now from when I was a child. I didn't have a TV in my room until I was about 15 and then it was when we got a new one downstairs so I had this full size one. I think there's so much choice now that it can make sense to have more TVs. Although I do agree with restriction and my kids know they're only allowed so much TV.

Both mine have tv/dvd combi's in their rooms. They both have rules as to what time they are allowed to watch it until and have had no problems.

I find it easier as there are somethings that I would watch before the watershed that I wouldnt really want them to watch and they are both happy to watch dvd's plus it gives them a bit of chill time too.

My son bought my daughters TVs when they were 17 and 15 for Christmas, I didn't know what he was getting them.

Had to control their use when they were revising but all my lot are like me...enjoy noise whatever I am doing and I don't get distracted.

I can see your point Tina but my daughter falls asleep watching a dvd. She's only allowed to watch a dvd at night though if she is in bed earlier than lights off time.

I have not got children so do not feel the pressure from them to "please can we have one - jenny or johnny down the roads got one" routine.

Personally I think the bedroom is for sleeping therefore should not have a tv in it at all.

Mine never had a TV in their room/s until they left home and came back - with their own!!
Mind you, we never had a TV in the house until they were about 5 and 7.
I have never had one in my bedroom -and don't want one, and won't be putting one in the spare bedroom for my grand daughter either.

Looks like I'm a bad mother then! lol. In my defence it was that or madness by Disney. I rest my case your honour.

There is a TV and DVD in our spare room.......and if there is a conflict and one wants to watch a DVD and the other something on TV then one goes upstairs to watch in there......... however eldest is asking for it to be moved into their room.!!! I'm not keen.

They also use it for the playstation or Hi Tech tv thingy they have if the TV is being used downstairs xx

Hmmmm......well ex bought the kids a portable tv/video when they were younger but as it was between them it went in the front room, until about 3 years ago when he got them a 20in tv and an xbox (I think it was, either that or the ps2). My daughter, the youngest, was about 10 at the time and she got the bigger tv and the portable went into my son's room (he also got the xbox/ps2 in his room). However, I didn't have to worry about them watching unsuitable programs as the aerial on the portable had broken and the bigger tv didn't have one so all they watched on them were dvd's, that's still all they watch on them, apart from if they hook one of the consoles up to the tv. It does come in useful especially with my daughter as she often falls asleep watching a dvd.
