David mine have all been such goody two shoes I could weep... except this line, and as it is also my own maiden name I just feel as though a splash of exotica has come into my life!! I know it is sad, but I am just sooooo determined to find a link... the name is unusual, so there is sure to be a connection of sorts!

I have a chap who married in 1849 and was sent to Reading Gaol for assaulting another woman the following year. Can't have been a nice chap. And a few others including one who was transported for nicking a shawl, poor bugger.

OH's tree is far more interesting convict wise. We have one in every generation down to his uncle, brother and nephew lol

ERR. robbing a bank, theft petty or major, or just getting yourself arrested, be careful xxxx. Will watch skey news in case you need rscuing!!!!!!

Lol..... this feels like I am a fully paid up member of the brigands club, lol... poor bloke probably only stole a loaf or sommat!!

It's finds like this that make it all worth while... still haven't found out too much... Ancestry won't let me back in... but I can see his name there, bold as brass... in New South Wales... now isn't that strange, as 100 years later... many members of the family moved to South Wales, uk! (They were from Devon and Cornwall originally)

This chap was transported in the 1780's... tha furthest I've got back in that line is my 4xgt grandfather born around then... same name!!

I don't know what he was sent there for yet..... found it when I was looking for my Aunty Olive, who died in Dar Es Salaam in the 1950's.. and it is her father's line, isn't that spooky? lol!!

The other side of the family were all ultra conservative and very devout Bible Christians, so this is a beauty!

Have you tried the 'Trace a Convict' or Black Sheep sites IOM....lots of info on convicts there....and also lots of other Australian sites too.

Think I've found a rellie on OH's tree who died in the Crimean War.No convicts or royals yet.

Well, he's not strictly mine yet..... I havent traced that branch quite that far back yet.......... but I am reasonably certain he will at the very least be connected to me!!

My dad will be mortified.... it's bad enough that this is the same line as his illigitimate grandfather........ dad wouldn't speak to me for weeks over that one, lol!!
