Yes it is a dying gene. Out of all the colours it is the most recessive gene. There was an article on one if the radio stations over here that featured a website that encouraged redheads to 'make babies' with other redheads to keep the gene alive!

My youngest son has red hair so does his wife and two children.

Interestingly when I started researching my aunt told me her grandfather had red hair as did her sister (died before I was born). I am one of 11 children none of us have red hair but quite a lot of our children and grandchildren do.

it was on tv a few weeks ago...a man in the US has a website trying to get redheads together to make more redhead babies so that the gene doesn't die out

Twinkly

as a child when he had a beard I used to sit on his lap and play with his beard for ages , suppose it was a sort of comfort blanket to me.

My sister is brown I am redhead, dad is black hair although his beard grows through ginger?????

Mums brothers son is blonde her sisters children one is brown the other blonde.

In our family , over the last hundred years or so, we have red-heads. Then we don,t, Years later, they come back.
I,m assuming we are talking about hair and not heads.
Best wishes Happy days

There are quite a few redheads in our area too.................interesting point though.

If the redhaired gene is a recessive one, then maybe the dominant genes will eventually eradicate it.

*worries that I have strained my brain*

talking with eldest last night and she suddenly came out with these questions/facts.

Red heads are getting extinct arent you.

You are cos the redhead gene is disappearing.

Now where shes got this from I dont know but she is adamant its true.
Maybe its because I am a redhead and none of my three are they have all got hubbys family collourings two are like him and tiddler is his sisters colour.

Am I a dying breed???
