Dawnie,

I am sure some whizz could make you a 'necessities' box with an alarm on!...lol

For me the worst part was getting up so many times in the night plus not being able to go away.

Friends used to laugh because when I sat down I was a couple of inches taller than them as I had the benefit of errrr.....don't know how to put this delicately.....extra padding!
Plus looking in the mirror to see if it was obvious, VPL wasn't a problem unless you change pantie to paddie!!!...pmsl

Sue

can imagine the rush at drs surgeries now with everyone asking for it lol.

The flooding to stop would be god but am lucky only getting a day or so like that now, trouble is add in the FM and the memory loss with that forget whether have sorted myself out or not.
Do you think they do a little box like my pill box reminder so I wouldnt forget and end up a mess.

Gotta laugh otherwise I would be more of a wreck than I already am

Thermal ablation was marvellous for me...

The lining of the womb is destroyed with heat and so can't shed anymore (hence no more bleeding). Your ovaries are obviously left in tact, so no hormone adjustments.

I had two days of cramp and a little loss afterwards but after that nothing!

It meant we could go away without taking all the necessities you would find in a gynae clinic, no worries about flooding and not wanting to stand up. I'm sure you know what I mean with all the embarassment heavy bleeding brings.

I'd had a few D & C's for polyp removal and it was certainly no worse than those procedures.

My mum's periods got less and less. She was a lot older before she finally hit menopause though. She had a really easy time of it.

I would say you really need to speak to your doc. It could be hormone imbalance or polycystic ovaries. How heavy are they and are they painful?

A friend of mine did Athena. I certainly wouldn't risk it!

Oh no, Daff, don't tell us this pre-menopausal thingy can last 10 years or so? Mine are horrendous - feels like I'm haemorrhaging every couple of weeks. If I've got to go through this for another 10 years I'll...I'll...have to go and get that thermal ablation done that SueM had (whatever that is - will have to look it up!). Anything to make it all stop!

Does anybody know - out of curiosity - if you are pre-menopausal can you still get pregnant? Not that I want to (heck, I don't even have a partner so no chance of that!). Just wondering.

Dawn dont worry, i was about 39.... but looking back I think I started about 37.

No worries love, you have enough to worry about without something as natural at that.

I had it very easy, and I had no tablets etc. BUT everyone is different.

LOL Ann!

I'm just coming up to 43 and started with night sweats when I was 38. I don't get so many of those now but usually have a tropical moment between 10 and 11 at night. My periods now come every 25 days instead of 28 but they only last a couple of days.

Everyone's different and I don't think it's owt to worry about unless it's giving you alot of problems. But you might as well ask the doctor while your there

Hi Dawnie... I started my periods at 10, I'll be 54 in June, and still having them (sticks tongue out at Sue M, lol)... seem to be every 6 weeks since last summer, and the odd one is seeming to be much lighter, the others I daren't go out the door!!. But I have had about 9 years of very heavy periods, sweats, anxiety attacks, mood swings, etc. My GP in Gloucester even told me that my joint pains were down to the menopause, so never investigated.

So I suppose that my pre-menopause started when I was about 45. I am still pre-menopausal... menopause is when they have actually stopped, and you can only put a date to it in retrospect!!

Love

I think you should get your hormone level checked, but it might easily be the start of the menopause.

My cycle was regular as clockwork, but when my Dad died, my periods stopped instantly.............probably due to the shock and stress we all went through at the time...............and I haven't had one for over 3 years now.

I am now 53

No other symptoms apart from occassional hot flushes, which I don't mind too much as I hate the cold!! lol

Interesting to read what others have gone through makes you feel normal in a strange way lol

Dawnie, for years I had a regular 30 day cycle which shortened over a number of years to 25 days.

Then, about 5 years ago, when I was about 43, they went all over the place. I was going through a lot of stress at the time and put it down to that, but looking back it was very early menopause. They became 3 weeks then 8 or nine weeks, then 3 weeks and 8 or nine weeks again.

This went on for a couple of years, then two years running I had 6 months without one, then back to the odd cycle, now they have stopped altogether (well I think 14 months counts as stopped lol)

However, it is worth mentioning to your doctor who can check that it is just hormones.

Sue Report 19 Mar 2008 12:14

No good asking me :-((( I was still going strong at 53 and showed no pre menopause symptoms at all. I had the longest serving uterus in Wales...lol

I finally had thermal ablation as I was bleeding 20 days out of 30. Only took me 6 years to get the agreement of my gynae!!! But the best thing I ever did.

BTW I started at 11 years old.

Will mention it to Dr when Im back in a month children off after today for 2 weeks so not much chance of going then anyway.

I started at 14 so late in comparision to a lot of the girls I was at school with. And mum was late stopping but she was regualr as clockwork whereas me and sister arent.

I started when I was 10 and sailed through the menopause in my late 40's.

Darn glad to see that back of that...no more pain each month!

My Doctor did say that it was a bit early but I wasn't complaining!
