Your reference to claiming housing benefit for a home thats owned reminded of a case we had

A woman had been claiming housing benefit for years for a house she rented she had a rent card and tenancy agreement for the propery was supposed to be a single woman with child

I asked for proof of househould bill and it had a mans name on it fraud pulled her in and it turned out

she owned the house, her mother had written the tenancy agreement and rent card, and she was married and her husband was in full time employment,
those are the people that make it hard for others to get benefit help as the forms that have to be filled in now are so long winded but its to help protect against fraud.

Sorry Colin,,,,,,what youre saying is claiming a little extra,,,

what MP;s do is out and out THEFT of PUBLIC money,,,our money that should be going to better uses,,like , the Elderly .Health,Schools,Transport, they are robbing this pot for all its worth,,,,,,,,,,,

I worked in benefits department and never withheld any information from people who where entitled benefits.

Many retired people where entitled to pension credit they weren't getting and I sent them the forms to claim.

It wasn't my money it was government money so it made no difference to my pay packet what people got.

Colin, that may be true, but how can you claim a housing allowance for something that you own outright and don't have to pay for. Also, if we have to buy our furniture out of our pay then why the hell can't they? It's not like we get furniture allowance for a new sofa and bed, is it? These people earn enough money without getting more in allowances than some of us could earn in two years.

Lorraine, glad that no one was hurt but sad for your situation. Hope the insurance covers a good replacement for you.

MPBW? What is that exactly please? Anyone who falsely claims for expenses is thieving - there is no other word for it. I have never stolen in my life and don't ever intend to, I was brought up better than that. It's certainly nothing to brag about.

Lorraine - so sorry to hear of your dilemma, but as you say, no one was hurt so that's a plus

But people do costantly take for a diiferent view
if you will moral dishonesty----
People working in benifit dept;who feel the need to
strike for more money--yet these same people
with hold information concerning befits people
in need might be entitled too--department policy??
or is it because they resent parting with money
like an old farmer i worked for once--when i asked
him where was the tips some of the owners
recond theyd left with him for me---He said no
point in given a working mon any extra than he
earns theyd only waste it

My accountant would not allow me to claim for a new £10.000 kitchen and an airconditioning unit for my 2nd home, not that I've got a 2nd home to put them in .. only a 2nd hand caravan on west sands selsey thats 3ft under water.

I personelly feel the M Ps should be left as they are--lets
be honest they arent doing anything we aint done--answer
honestly-----If your claiming travell allowance from you firm
do you--Go in your own car?
Do you travell in car full all claiming travelling allowance?
That meal out you claim for and take your own sandwiches?
Do you declare your tax honestly--how about the week end
foriegners--the cash in hand jobs?
Claiming for things dishonestly against your tax forms
I could go on all night but you have to agree when you
examine yourself the Honerable Members of Parliment
aint so bad after all
