I very much doubt it Kitty but I do feel tempted to have a look in the two 'exchange and mart' type shops in the town to see if my rings were taken there for cash and are on display for sale. If they were I would go straight to the Police station and tell them. Knowing my luck these two toe-rags will be wearing them. |

Margaret, you probably have seen things like this on tv but when it actually happens to yourself you don't realise what is going on, just think they are ignorant people bumping into you. Surley the shop staff must have an idea of what is going on when they see people like these crowding people so why don't they do something!!. I used to work in retail and we had a problem with purse snatchers too, they make my blood boil and when i knew they were instore i would inform as many customers as possible, even though i almost got my face bashed in for doing it. I sympathise with you because even though i know the signs, i also had my purse stolen once and it's the most horrible feeling. I hope they catch the people that took your purse but most of all i hope that you recover from this soon and start to feel a bit better. Sending you my best wishes. x |

just a thought Margret, if they dump the purses in the town bins, could you get hold of the local council and ask them to keep an eye open? |

Moonshine and Taff - thank you both for your concern. I hadn't actually thought about contacting the local council. It's worth a try but I can't see the refuse people examing each and every bin around town when they empty them. I think I am just going to have to accept that the purse and contents has gone and unless I am extremely lucky and spot the rings in a pawn shop, I've had it. |

Margaret I hope someone finds your dumped purse, then at least you will get your photos back, and perhaps your bus pass. |

Margaret, do you have photos of your rings by any chance? Perhaps if you have you could take them into the pawn type shops and ask them to look out for them. actually you could go in to them anyway with a description. i am sure they don't want to buy stolen good if they can help it. |

No Ann, I don't have photos of them unfortunately but I was able to tell the Police exactly what caret they were and was even able to tell them the size engraved on the inside of the wedding ring. As for the house and contents insurance, I never gave that a thought. I'll have to get the policy out and see exactly what I am covered for. I know it covers opersonal items, but whether this is accidental loss, theft of what I am not sure. Thank you for that suggestion. You have also made me think now of photographing any other jewellery I have although lets be honest, I should never have been so stupid as to keep them in my purse. This stemmed from the day I was divorced when I took them off and into my purse and they have stayed there ever since !! I suppose this is partly my own fault for being so foolhardy. |

Thank you everyone that has replied. You have been extremely kind and it is a comfort. Like I said, I must now content myself with the fact that what is done is done and that my more 'precious' belongings have gone. The loss of them is what cuts into me the most. The money loss is a damned nuisance but certainly not the end of the world. I can manage without it. It will certainly serve as a lesson to me and I shall be extra wary now. If I ever see those two again I hope I resist the urge to clobber them. I do intend looking out for them and if I see them about town I will fetch security or Police and point them out. Thanks again everyone. |

Just been in our local Morrisons today and the assistant told me to watch my purse. They have had a few purses stolen in there the last few days. |

Thanks Caz and Maggie and yes I'm ok thanks. I can't describe the feeling, it is like a sinking feeling every time I think about the personal things, the photos and rings. The money doesn't matter too much. I am trying my hardest not to think about it because as I said that sinking feeling rushes back when I do added to which I am penniless until I can get to the bank and get some money out !! |
