1/6d for a pound of best mince

When I first married had £8 a week house keeping money paid rent and saved for gas and electricity bills out of it paid coalman milkman and window cleaner and newspapers too. We ate quite well too!

My first Saturday job was in a bakery shop - unsliced bread 11d - old money - fancy cakes 6d each - doughnuts 3d each - oh dear I am showing my age !!!

When I started work a sunblessed bread loaf was 14 ,1/2 Pence
that was 1976.

Yes, and once I bought 2oz of Cherry Lips (remember them?) and salted peanuts had been on the scale before and they tasted horrid!!! Shopkeeper wouldn't change them or refund money...like to see that happen today..what a disappointment as it was my pocket money and so looking forward to them lol
