I remember a big scandal at school when London TRansport put the child bus fare up from 10p to 15p. That was ten half pence sweets i couldnt eat if I couldn't be bothered to walk home!

there used to be a "shop" in the maket, where you had a meal of faggots, peas, and gravy for 6d

When the fair came to town we used to get a1p bag of black peas or roast spuds, (although they were full of eyes,) and we got a meat pie on a tray with soup off the mushy peas, mmmmm

I remember the crispy scraps Lynda. We used to call it crackling. Had to have loads of vinegar on it though.

lol Puss, I don't think I'm as old as many on here ;-) could get crisps for 5p but they were the really cheap make.

Ohh speaking of chips... I remember FREE scraps from the chipshop.

Used to go in and ask, "Have you got any scraps?" Had to time it just right to get there before the other kids but left long enough that they would have built up plenty. bit of salt and vinegar and you were good to go. :-)

Walkers crisps for 10p and a mars bar for 15p in the mid 80s.

I remember those little black sweets but if my memory serves me right I didn't like them!

We have a big sweet shop in our underground market where they sell all the old sweets. My 8 yr old takes ages to choose. I still love sherbert pips and tom thumb drops.

and those jars of sweets up north we had sarsparella sweets when we moved south they never heard of them xx, used to have chips in newspaper too

Lol - oh I had forgotten that bright yellow sherbet powder - lick ya finger and then dip it in - then let a friend have a few dips in exchange for a sweet. How did we survive all those shared germs lol.

I remember my nan giving me 3d old money to go to the shop on a Sunday morning and you could get 2oz of sweets - acid drops, sherbet lemons, toffee crunch or pineapple chunks - or some black jacks and fruit salads that were four for a penny
(Took ages to choose, then we went back to nan's and she took them away, put them on a high shelf till we ate all our dinner - even the cabbage!)

funny that bread its as cheap as in late 70s, like tesco's stale sliced lol.

I went on a school trip to Normandy France, and we were only allowed to take £10.00 spending money for a week. 1975
