Oh, Deb, humorous use of language. I don't say "y'all" at all. I did it here because it seemed à propos.

It is a problem in our English, you know. We don't have a plural "you". I did find when I spent time in Texas (twice, and never again) that I started saying it, because it's a useful, uh, word. Remember being told not to say "youse" when you were a kid? I didn't say it, because I was a grammar freak at a young age, but there's a reason why kids say it.

In Quebec they have "vous autres" to clarify that they are talking about a plural "you" (and then back-modeled "nous autres" on it, even though "nous" is always plural anyhow). We don't got nuttin.

So I was clarifying that I was talking to the plural "you". And just being cute. I'd never say it in conversation. I hadn't even realized I did it, I see. I couldn't figure out why someone was then addressing me as y'all (which is not at all the same thing). Now I see.

So no -- now that my Texan former co-vivant has very sadly drunk himself to his grave, I have reverted to my pristine Canadian English! I still have a mum, not a mawm, and I was a Girl Guide, not a Girl Scout, and went to grade five, not fifth grade, and use antee-aging cream, not anteye-ageing cream. Against insidious USAmericanisms, I stand on guard!

What part of Canada do you live in Kathryn for you to say "y'all"?

In all the years that I have lived here, I have never met one Canadian who uses that phrase. I have heard it in the States many times, but never Canada.

Hoax virus emails really do cause unnecessary distress to people who haven't been on the net for yonks and don't yet know better than to pay attention.

She quoted him for years, until someone either gently set her straight or laughed at her, I dunno which. I'd say gullible runs on the maternal side, except her mum wasn't. right - just wanted to say though that there are a lot of people on this site who are very vulnerable and I suppose like me, live alone and use this site not just for genealogy but for friendship and an outlet as well and when poor Gail in Oz was attacked by this Kathryn I just felt, like most of us did, that we had to support her as she is so fragile and so ill, as is her husband. She lives out in the sticks in Oz and enjoys the contacts she has on here and we didn't want her frightened off. Sure you can understand that. Anyway, as you said, you are not the one who was horrible to her, so that;s an end to it. I added Green Gables to my name as there are so many Ann's on the boards

I come here to play with genealogy, not to discuss people or their problems.

If people have problems that make them unable to participate in discussions of something, they should probably avoid those discussions.

Certainly no one else involved in a discussion of something should be expected to know what problems another participant in the discussion has that makes him/her unable to participate in it without getting distressed. If people get distressed when they participate in a discussion of something, that is not the problem of anyone else discussing it. Really.

Nonetheless, I still have no idea who the person in question is.

These ladies have been instrumental in the last few days for my finding out so much more about my family tree. I'd like to thank them publicly for their help. Lesley gave me information firstly on Jno Samuel Onley which helped Dea & Kathryn double confirm that the parentage was indeed correct from there to his father, mother his grandfather & mother then of course on the ladies side too. Then today Lesley has kindly helped me within 20 mins on locating my Nan Ada Randall on the 1901 census so now I have her mother father & brothers names oh I'm starting to get all excited again not only about my tree progress but that the friendly atmosphere I found on this site of Christmas Day 2006 is slowly returning. Thankyou one & all & thankyou GR for making all this a possibility.

Yep definately thank you to two ladies who have helped guide me through the searching for relatives process. Kathryn B and Krissie. I am now in touch with some of my fathers relatives most of whom I never knew existed!
I'd like to give special mention to Kathryn B who thankfully wrote to my family members when I got in a muddle, with out her help and guidance I would have probably given up all hope and felt annoyed with myself for joining the site in the first place. ...
