I got this too, and my subscription was only renewed in January!!!

I've decided not to ring up with other cards ( I haven't got another one apart from a credit card I'm trying not to use) and that way I can take advantage of any offers on at the time, rather than pay full subscription like I did this time!!!

Thanks again Laptop

Just got through to ancestry and now have 90 days free access in which time they will endevour to make payment options available, as soon as I told the CRS her first question was do I use a maestro card, so good to see they are well informed of the situation and willing to give us this free period until they can sort it, she said they are looking into a pay pal system.

Off now to make use my free period as much as I can lol

Just a brief input....have posted many inputs regarding Maestro card usage.

I myself was refused m'ship for Ancestry, three other companies I had been trading with informed me that Maestro was no longer being accepted.

Reason being:

Maestro or associated bank/company had changed their terms of conditions for usage which were no acceptable by commercial trading companies.

Doesn't say above the grey bars but found an email from Aug 07. Really off that even in 'my accoun' page on Ancestry it doesn't give a date either. GR at least shows when it runs out.
thanks

Yes, I've just got a letter advising me of this. For a start, my annual membership paid for last year doesnt actually run out till May, and secondly, I read the letter and wondered what took them so long. Everyone on this board has been aware of the situation for ages - why has it taken Ancestry so long to tell us.

I too received the above letter today but can't remember when my subs run out. Is there a way of checking as I think I have a few months yet?

Looks like the people who run World of Warcraft (online roleplay game) have stopped it too... not read all threads as gonna head out to pick mum up.

Interesting:

(split to fit the line) comments are slightly more interesting than the article but worth a read. Might have something to do with current situation.

May be owned by them but subsidiaries often apply own rules separate to parent company.

Maybe find out the definitive reason why they stopped taking it first. Also google to find out who else has stopped accepting it?

It wouldn't be so bad if they took cheques. I'm lucky though, mines a visa debit card.

Oh well done, that will make them sit up. Perhaps we should have a petition lol!

I am sending the following to Ancestry just to remind them how important Maestro is. (Incidentally Maestro is owned by Mastercard, which Ancestry accept !)

I must say though, that I don't know for sure that the reason they stopped was fees, that's just what I heard on the grapevine.
