Likewise, I liked the Odd Couple but I really like Oscar Wilde. It started when I watched Stephen Fry play him in the film of the same name.

Inspired casting there!

Do you know I have that film on video...and have never yet watched it! I must do so...

You must, you really must.

Imagine Oscar Wilde and then imagine who could possibly play a troubled, uber-clever, very sensitive, sexually challenged male and you'd be short on contenders.

And Stephen Fry does it beautifully.

By the way, have you read any of Stephen Fry's books?

I read ''moab is my washpot" really enjoyed that! was just after my mum died...and for some reason (must read it again ) found it very 'life affirming'....

"I have to mime at parties when everyone sings “Happy Birthday.”…mime or mumble and rumble and growl and grunt so deep that only moles, manta rays and mushrooms can hear me."

Been there, got the T-shirt!

I know what you mean, Rose - it's the absolute honesty of the book. No excuses given, and no real reasons why - just fact. And funnily enough, because they're no explanations, I seemed to understand - much better than I would've done if there'd been attempts at justification.

I'd never thought of that as life affirming, but I suppose it is.

You put that very well Sue!

....maybe that was it...the lack of 'justification'....just 'this is how it was'.....take it or leave it. it is the past ...

mmm ..........must get the book out and re read.........

And while you're on, try John Peel "Margrave of the Marshes" Most of it is JP's autobiography, but finished by his wife. If that doesn't get you thinking, I'd be very surprised.

Night Rose.

Must off to kip now - only up this late on a weekday cos I'm down for a scrape and polish at the dentist in the morning. Which at least gives me a bit of a lie in.

Virtue, you see, is its own reward!

Thanks - I've enjoyed tonight (not having to perform to strangers!)
